Job summary

Toast is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Dublin-based Connect team. You will design, build, and scale backend microservices and RESTful APIs using Kotlin/Java on AWS, with a focus on reliability and observability.

You will lead cross-team projects, review code, and collaborate with PM/UX to deliver new features, while mentoring peers. A hybrid schedule requires two days in-office per week.

Qualifications

• 5+ years professional backend software development in Kotlin, Java, or another OO language.
• Strong understanding of building RESTful APIs, fault‑tolerant, scalable distributed systems.
• Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL databases and distributed datastores.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain scalable backend microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Lead complex projects spanning multiple teams & systems.
• Champion best practices with automated testing and phased rollouts.
• Monitor service health, analyze logs/metrics (Datadog/CloudWatch), and participate in on-call rotations.
• Collaborate with peer engineers, provide design feedback, and participate in code reviews.
• Collaborate with PM & UX on new features & products.
• Mentor & coach peer engineers.
• Use AI tooling as part of the workflow.
