Job summary

Toast is seeking a Staff Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and operate foundational distributed systems powering its platform. You will bridge core infrastructure with product development, tackling low-latency stateful storage, scalable compute clusters, and high‑throughput streaming pipelines to support Toast’s expanding markets and product offerings.

Qualifications

• Core infrastructure and automation experience.
• Hands-on cloud IaC work with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Fluency in Python, Go, or similar for tooling and backend work.
• Deep experience operating enterprise databases at scale (Postgres, DynamoDB, OpenSearch).
• Containerization skills with Docker and orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS).
• Strong SRE principles: monitoring, health checks, alerting, performance troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Architect, deploy, and manage low-latency, highly available storage solutions.
• Ensure sub-second latency, near-zero downtime, and high throughput across systems.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and compute pipelines for PDLC.
• Right-size resources, implement auto-scaling, and control AWS costs without sacrificing reliability.
