Job summary

Toast, Inc. is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer for the Compute & Storage Platform to design, build, and operate foundational distributed systems as Toast expands internationally and broadens its product offerings for retail experiences.

You will bridge core infrastructure and product development, building low-latency state and storage systems, scalable compute clusters, and high-throughput streaming pipelines to enable Toast product delivery across our PDLC.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building scalable cloud infrastructure on AWS using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.).
• Fluency in Python, Go, or a similar language for infrastructure automation, tooling, or backend development.
• Deep experience operating and tuning enterprise databases at scale (Postgres, Oracle, MySQL) and at least one nonrelational (MongoDB, DynamoDB, OpenSearch).
• Experience with containerized environments and orchestration tools (Docker, ECS, Kubernetes).

Responsibilities

• Architect, deploy, and manage low-latency, highly available storage solutions (Postgres, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, S3) to power Toast product ecosystems.
• Ensure sub-second end-user latency, near-zero-downtime reliability, and high throughput across storage engines.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and compute pipelines.
• Right-size compute/storage resources and implement auto-scaling policies while managing AWS costs.
