Job summary

Toast is seeking an experienced software engineer to scale and develop its cloud platform and infrastructure in Ireland. You will help build secure, observable, highly available services used by millions and empower hundreds of internal services and devices.

You will architect and deliver high-performance, resilient systems on AWS using Kotlin/Java, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Terraform. Collaboration with product teams will shape future features and the architecture.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and building cloud-native, highly available services.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and scalable architectures.
• Proficiency in Java or Kotlin; knowledge of other modern languages is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with asynchronous messaging and event-driven patterns.
• Familiarity with databases, APIs, and integration patterns.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and deliver ultra-reliable, high-performance services and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with Product teams to influence features and technical direction.
• Uncover and resolve performance bottlenecks across infrastructure, databases, and APIs.
• Define and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines.
• Manage and operate cloud-native services on AWS; support milhões of users.
