Job description

Senior Mechanical Estimator (452443) Dublin, Republic of Ireland

Salary: EUR80000 - EUR100000 per annum

We are currently partnering with a leading M&E and building services contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join their established pre-construction team in Dublin.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical estimator who is comfortable taking complete ownership of large-scale, technically complex tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission and award.

You’ll work on major projects across the data centre, pharmaceutical, commercial and industrial sectors, while also taking responsibility for mentoring junior estimators and supporting the continued development of the estimating function.

The Company

Our client is a well‑established mechanical and electrical engineering contractor delivering major projects throughout Ireland and internationally.

The business operates across technically demanding sectors including:

  • Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences
  • Commercial Developments
  • Industrial & Manufacturing

With continued growth and a substantial pipeline of new projects, they are looking to strengthen their pre-construction team with an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator.

The Role

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will take responsibility for producing accurate and commercially robust mechanical estimates across major M&E projects.

You’ll be trusted to manage complex tenders autonomously from start to finish, coordinating supplier and subcontractor pricing, completing detailed take-offs, identifying commercial risks and presenting completed estimates to senior management.

You’ll also play an important role in developing junior members of the estimating team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage mechanical tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission
  • Carry out detailed reviews of tender documentation, drawings, specifications and schedules
  • Complete accurate quantity take-offs and populate pricing documents
  • Prepare detailed Bills of Quantities
  • Obtain competitive quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Review and interrogate subcontractor quotations for technical and commercial compliance
  • Identify potential scope gaps before subcontract packages are incorporated into bids
  • Produce detailed estimates covering labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages
  • Analyse mechanical drawings and specifications
  • Identify commercial, technical and programme risks within tenders
  • Ensure appropriate contingencies are incorporated into estimates
  • Identify and cost potential value‑engineering opportunities
  • Present completed estimates and tender recommendations to senior management
  • Coordinate closely with electrical estimators to produce fully integrated M&E submissions
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal project teams
  • Maintain accurate tender documentation and cost information
Mechanical Systems

You will be estimating projects incorporating a broad range of mechanical building services, including:

  • HVAC systems
  • Heating and chilled water systems
  • Mechanical and process pipework
  • Plumbing and public health
  • Ventilation
  • Pumps and associated plant
  • Mechanical equipment
  • Specialist mechanical services

A strong understanding of pipework systems, materials, installation methods and associated labour requirements will be particularly important.

Leadership & Development

As a senior member of the estimating department, you’ll also:

  • Mentor and train junior mechanical estimators
  • Delegate and coordinate estimating workloads where required
  • Review work produced by less experienced team members
  • Help improve estimating procedures, templates and standards
  • Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement
  • Help ensure estimating resources are used effectively across multiple tenders
The Candidate

We’re looking for an experienced estimator with a strong background in mechanical building services contracting.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Experience completing detailed take-offs and BOQs
  • Strong understanding of labour, material and subcontract costs
  • Excellent numerical and analytical ability
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Data centre or pharmaceutical project experience
  • Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Quantity Surveying or similar qualification
  • Experience working alongside electrical estimating teams on combined M&E tenders
The Package

€80,000-€100,000 basic salary, depending on experience

Additional company benefits package

  • Pension
  • Further education support
  • Exposure to major, technically complex projects
  • Long-term career progression within pre-construction and estimating

This position offers a genuine pathway beyond traditional estimating.

You’ll gain exposure to senior management, major tender strategy and increasingly complex projects, with potential progression into:

Senior Mechanical Estimator -> Estimating Manager -> Pre-Construction Manager -> Head of Pre-Construction

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join a successful and expanding M&E contractor where you’ll be trusted with major mechanical tenders rather than simply contributing individual take-offs or packages.

You’ll have autonomy over complex bids, direct exposure to senior management, responsibility for developing junior estimators and a clear pathway into estimating and pre-construction leadership.
