Job summary

Circet Ireland is hiring a Cable Designer to join our engineering team in Ireland. The role focuses on the design, analysis and engineering of HV and MV cable systems for underground infrastructure across Ireland and the UK.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in underground cable design, adherence to standards, and experience supporting ESB/EirGrid and other DNOs. The position offers a challenging, collaborative environment with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of HV/MV cable design experience.
• Proven experience designing underground cable systems from 10 kV to 110 kV+.
• Strong understanding of transmission and distribution power systems.
• Experience performing cable thermal rating, bonding, sheath voltage and earthing calculations.
• Experience producing engineering drawings, technical reports and design documentation.
• Familiarity with utility project delivery processes and technical approval procedures.

Responsibilities

• Design underground HV/MV cable systems from concept to construction support.
• Perform cable rating calculations per industry standards and client requirements.
• Carry out thermal analysis and ampacity studies for underground cables.
• Design bonding arrangements, including single point, solid bonded and cross bonded.
• Calculate sheath voltages and losses and propose mitigation measures.
• Design earthing systems for cable circuits and infrastructure.
• Conduct cable pulling calculations, sidewall pressure assessments, and feasibility studies.
• Develop cable route engineering solutions for various environments.
• Produce route drawings, plans and construction details and prepare technical reports.
