Job summary

WSP Energy is expanding its HV cable design capability in Ireland/UK, seeking a HV Cable Design Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team. You will lead designs, contribute to FEED and detailed design, and ensure compliance with IEC standards while collaborating with civil, protection, and control teams.

Hybrid work is offered across Dublin, Naas, or Belfast offices. You will develop expertise in HV cable systems, participate in client design reviews, and advance projects toward zero-emission

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• Extensive HV cable design experience for HVAC/HVDC projects.
• Familiarity with IEC standards and CIGRE/IEEE policies.
• Knowledge of EirGrid/ESB standards and specifications.
• Willingness to travel as projects dictate.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV/MV cable system designs from concept through FEED and detailed design.
• Act as technical authority and support multidisciplinary integration.
• Review Owner’s Engineer and supplier deliverables for compliance.
• Prepare equipment and route specifications, tender docs, and reports.
• Perform sizing, thermal, EMF/TMF studies and conduct design checks.
• Coordinate interfaces and ensure on-time design delivery.
• Identify and mitigate health and safety risks in designs.
• Lead design reviews, meetings, and workshops with clients and partners.
• Support construction/commissioning with technical oversight.
• Contribute to temporary works and installation methodologies.
• Maintain accountable drawings and documentation across the project.
