Job summary

Sheridans Cheesemongers is looking for an enthusiastic Retail Cheesemonger to join our team at the cheese wall in Dunnes Stores, Curraheen Rd, Cork City. This 20-hour contract over 5 days offers an hands-on retail role for someone who loves great food and sharing that enthusiasm with customers.

No previous cheesemongering experience is necessary; training will be provided to develop expertise in Irish and European artisan cheese, food producers and their traditions.

Qualifications

• Experience in retail or food service is helpful but not required.
• Interest in Irish and European artisan cheese encouraged, training provided.

Responsibilities

• Receive and process deliveries, and stock cheese walls.
• Maintain stock levels and rotate stock regularly.
• Care for cheese and other products to ensure optimal quality.
• Merchandise displays and keep cheese walls attractive.
• Prepare cheese for sale and keep signage updated.
• Offer tastings and guide customers to new cheeses and foods.
• Explain flavour, texture, provenance, and producer stories.
• Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service.
• Learn about Irish/European farmhouse cheese and artisan foods.
• Help minimise waste and ensure products sold before best-before dates.
• Maintain food safety, HACCP and allergen standards.
• Keep counters, fridges and storage tidy and organized.
• Participate in stocktakes and daily records.
• Support team with seasonal displays and retail activities.
• Report stock, product or customer issues to Team Leader or Retail Manager.
• Provide cover at Cornelscourt location when required.

Retail Cheesemonger – Sheridans Cheesemongers, Curraheen Rd Shopping Centre

Love cheese, great food and talking to people?

Sheridans Cheesemongers is looking for an enthusiastic Retail Cheesemonger to join our team at our cheese wall in Dunnes Stores, Curraheen Rd, with a 20 hour contract spread over 5 days.

This is a hands-on retail role for someone who loves great food and enjoys sharing that enthusiasm with customers. You'll be part cheesemonger, part storyteller and part food retailer - looking after beautiful cheeses, keeping the wall looking fantastic and helping customers discover something new.

No previous cheesemongering experience is necessary. We provide training and the opportunity to develop genuine expertise in Irish and European artisan cheese, food producers and the traditions behind them.

Our working week runs Sunday to Saturday.

The current shifts we need to cover at Curraheen Rd are:

Weekend availability is essential, particularly for the Sunday and Saturday shifts.

Occasional cover at our Bandon Rd location may also be required.

What you'll be doing

The role combines customer service, food knowledge and the day-to-day running of our cheese walls.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Receiving and processing deliveries and putting stock away correctly.
• Maintaining accurate stock levels and carrying out regular stock rotation.
• Looking after cheese and other products to ensure they are stored, handled and sold in the best possible condition.
• Merchandising and maintaining attractive, well-stocked cheese displays.
• Preparing cheese for sale and keeping signs and displays looking great throughout the day.
• Offering customer tastings and helping customers discover new cheeses and foods.
• Talking to customers about flavour, texture, provenance, pairings and the stories behind our producers.
• Providing friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely excellent customer service.
• Learning about and promoting Irish and European farmhouse cheese and artisan food.
• Working with the team to minimise waste and ensure products are sold within their best-before dates.
• Maintaining food safety, HACCP and allergen standards.
• Keeping counters, fridges, storage areas and the surrounding retail space clean and organised.
• Taking part in stocktakes and maintaining relevant daily records.
• Supporting the wider team with seasonal displays, hampers and other retail activities.
• Reporting stock, product or customer issues to the Team Leader or Retail Manager.
• Providing cover at our Cornelscourt location when required.

• Self-motivated and happy working independently when required.
• Practical and hands-on - happy to get stuck into deliveries, stock and merchandising as well as customer service.
• Detail-oriented, particularly when it comes to stock rotation, food care and presentation.
• Passionate about providing excellent customer service.
• Available to work the required shifts, including weekends.

Previous retail, deli, food service or cheesemongering experience is welcome but not essential. HACCP or food-safety experience is an advantage, but training will be provided.
