Job summary

O'Connor Sutton Cronin is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer for a civil infrastructure project in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. You will oversee on-site activities, supervise construction, and ensure compliance with drawings, specs and programme.

The role requires a Level 8 Civil Engineering qualification and a minimum of six years' post-graduate experience, with a strong focus on health and safety and contract administration. Chartered status would be advantageous.

Qualifications

• Level 8 qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 years of post-graduate engineering experience.
• Experience as Resident Engineer, Site Engineer or similar site-based role.
• Experience on civil infrastructure projects (roads, active travel, drainage).
• 5+ years working under Public Works Contracts.
• Experience assisting with contract administration.

Responsibilities

• Act as Resident Engineer, overseeing contractor activities on site.
• Supervise construction of Active Travel infrastructure works.
• Ensure works follow drawings, specifications, contract requirements and programme.
• Monitor workmanship, materials and construction quality.
• Carry out site inspections and maintain site records.
• Monitor progress and report on programme, quality and issues.
• Identify problems and recommend resolutions.
• Review contractor submissions, method statements, RAMS and related docs.
• Assist with contract administration, including payment applications and variations.
• Liaise with Employer, contractor, design team and stakeholders.
• Ensure Health & Safety requirements on site.
• Prepare site and progress reports and project documentation.
• Attend site and progress meetings.
• Collaborate with project team for successful delivery.
