Job summary

n8n is seeking a staff-level Platform Architect to shape and evolve the core platform that powers the company’s automation engine, enabling 80+ engineers and an open-source community to build confidently across cloud and self-hosted deployments.

You will drive architectural direction across Core Platform teams, design adaptable backend foundations, and mentor engineers through design reviews and RFCs, aligning multi-team efforts with durable, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

Staff-level architectural ownership across multiple systems or teams with long-term impact.
Strong systems thinking, invariants, failure modes, boundaries and trade-offs.
Experience designing configurable, scalable systems serving multiple use cases.
Deep experience with distributed systems, queues, state machines, and resilience.
Proven cross-team technical leadership, RFCs, and mentorship in large engineering orgs.

Responsibilities

Define and evolve core platform architecture for scalable backend and frontend platforms.
Drive durable backend foundations, orchestration, scheduling, and data persistence strategies.
Collaborate with FE platform team on canvas architecture, real-time features and plugin contracts.
Lead architecture decisions through proposals and RFCs, ensuring coherent cross-team platform behavior.
Mentor engineers and raise maintainability and performance across platforms.
