Job summary

ODS Engineering is seeking a Senior Project Manager with deep structural steelwork expertise to lead end-to-end delivery of steelwork contracts. This senior, autonomous role is within a thriving Irish engineering business with ISO 9001 accreditation.

You will own the full project lifecycle from tender and design coordination through fabrication, production, site installation, snagging, and O&M handover, taking commercial and operational accountability to the divisional manager.

Qualifications

• 10+ years' experience in structural steelwork project management or contracts management.
• End-to-end delivery experience from tender through handover.
• Strong commercial acumen with contract administration and cost management.
• Established network of structural steel clients, main contractors or supply chain partners.

Responsibilities

• Own the complete project lifecycle from tender to O&M handover, including design coordination, fabrication oversight, site installation and snagging.
• Manage multiple steelwork projects across the full value chain, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery to spec.
• Lead internal teams and external subcontractors to meet programme milestones.
• Act as primary client contact, manage expectations and resolve issues proactively.
• Drive handover processes including O&M manuals and as-built documentation.

This role sits within ODS's Industrial division and represents a leadership opportunity for an experienced structural steel professional who combines technical delivery capability with strong commercial and client relationship skills..

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager with deep structural steelwork expertise to lead the end-to-end delivery of steelwork contracts. This is a senior, autonomous role within a growing business unit. The successful candidate will own the full project lifecycle — from tender and design coordination through fabrication, production, site installation, snagging, and O&M manual handover — while being commercially and operationally accountable to the divisional manager

This is an ideal role for someone with an established network of clients and supply chain contacts in the structural steel sector, who is motivated by building something of lasting value within a well‑capitalised, quality‑driven Irish engineering business.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

• Own the complete project lifecycle from tender award through to O&M manual sign-off, including design coordination, fabrication oversight, site installation, and snagging resolution
• Manage multiple concurrent steelwork projects (or one large strategic one) across the full value chain, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget delivery to specification
• Manage internal teams (design, fabrication, procurement, site) and external subcontractors to meet programme milestones
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle, managing expectations and resolving issues proactively
• Drive project handover processes including preparation and issue of O&M manuals and as‑built documentation

Commercial & Contracts Management

• Take full commercial ownership of steelwork contracts — including scope management, change control, valuations, and final account settlement
• Support with input into reviewing tender submissions, cost plans, and project budgets in coordination with the estimating function
• Monitor project P&L, identify commercial risks early, and implement mitigation strategies
• Negotiate and manage subcontractor and supplier contracts, leveraging established market relationships to secure competitive and reliable supply
• Maintain accurate cost reporting and commercial forecasting for Business Unit Lead review

Health, Safety & Quality

• Ensure all project activities are executed in full compliance with ODS Health & Safety policies, CDM regulations, and applicable Irish/EU H&S legislation
• Maintain site safety plans, method statements, and risk assessments for all steelwork operations
• Champion quality standards aligned with ODS's ISO 9001 Quality Management System throughout fabrication and installation
• Conduct and document site inspections, audits, and NCR management as required

Reporting & Governance

• Report to the divisional lead on all operational, commercial, and H&S matters at a programme and project level
• Maintain accurate project registers, programme schedules, and risk logs
• Contribute to business development activity — identifying new opportunities, supporting tender strategies, and leveraging client and supply chain relationships

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 10 years' experience in structural steelwork project management and/or contracts management
• Demonstrated track record of delivering steelwork projects end-to-end, from tender through to handover
• Strong commercial acumen — experienced in contract administration, cost management, and final account negotiation
• Established network of structural steel clients, main contractors, and/or supply chain partners
• In‑depth knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes, connection design, and site installation methodologies
• Thorough understanding of H&S obligations on construction and industrial sites, including CDM and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (Ireland)
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills — capable of operating confidently at both site level and boardroom level
• Proficiency in project programming tools (MS Project or equivalent) and standard office applications
