Job summary

Sigmar Recruitment is seeking a Civil Project Design Engineer for a client in Portlaoise or Galway. You will design and develop civil engineering projects across energy, utilities and infrastructure, with increasing responsibility as you gain experience.

You will work on renewable energy, gas and water projects, preparing drawings and calculations, supporting planning and compliance, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Qualifications

  • An honours bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a higher qualification.
  • At least five years of relevant post‑graduate design experience.
  • Solid foundation in civil engineering design and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
  • A good academic record.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to manage your own workload while contributing to a team.
  • Full clean driving licence and access to transport.

Responsibilities

  • Developing civil engineering designs for energy and utility projects from concept to completion.
  • Work on new installations and modifications to existing gas and water infrastructure.
  • Contribute to design of renewable energy and power projects including solar, hydro and CHP.
  • Prepare drawings, calculations, specifications and supporting technical documentation.
  • Assist with planning applications and other statutory requirements.
  • Ensure designs comply with building regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to develop integrated design solutions.
  • Support project delivery while developing technical, communication and project management skills.

Our client is seeking a Civil Project Design Engineer to join its engineering team in Portlaoise or Galway. With over 40 years of experience delivering engineering solutions, the business offers exposure to projects across renewable energy, power generation, gas networks, water and industrial infrastructure. This permanent role offers a salary of €55,000–€65,000, alongside a bonus scheme, hybrid and flexible working arrangements, and structured career progression with support towards Chartered Engineer status.

About Your New Job

You will work on the design and development of engineering projects, gaining involvement in both technical design and the wider project delivery process. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as your experience develops.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing civil engineering designs for energy and utility projects, from initial concepts through to completion.
  • Working on new installations and modifications to existing gas and water infrastructure.
  • Contributing to the design of renewable energy and power generation projects, including solar, hydro and combined heat and power systems.
  • Preparing engineering drawings, calculations, specifications and supporting technical documentation.
  • Assisting with planning applications, fire safety certificates, Disability Access Certificates and other statutory requirements.
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant building regulations and applicable technical standards.
  • Coordinating with other engineering disciplines to develop practical, integrated design solutions.
  • Supporting project delivery while developing your technical, communication and project management skills.
What Skills You Need
  • An honours bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a higher qualification.
