Job description

Are you an experienced Team Leader or Project Manager with an engineering, construction, MEP or electrical background looking for your next challenge?

We’re looking for a commercially aware and delivery-focused Project Manager Team Lead to provide leadership and oversight to a dedicated team of PM's with ownership of multiple busbar and electrical distribution projects across the rapidly growing data centre and MEP sectors.

If you enjoy working at the intersection of engineering, construction, manufacturing and project delivery, this is an opportunity to make a real impact.

The Project Manager – Team Lead is responsible for leading a team of Project Managers while ensuring the successful delivery of busbar projects across MEP and data centre environments. This role combines project delivery accountability with people leadership — overseeing team performance, driving process consistency, and acting as the escalation point for project challenges across the team's portfolio.

The Team Lead works closely with the Project Delivery Manager to maintain visibility of delivery performance, risks, and resource requirements, while coordinating across Engineering, BIM, Production Planning, Commercial, and Site Deployment teams. This role requires strong leadership, commercial awareness, and the ability to balance team development with delivery demands in a fast-paced, engineer-to-order environment.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Oversight
  • Provide leadership and oversight to a team of Project Managers, ensuring successful delivery across the team's project portfolio.
  • Act as the escalation point for project issues, supporting PMs in resolving challenges with clients, engineering, production, and commercial teams.
  • Conduct regular one-to-one reviews with PMs to monitor workload, project health, and individual development.
  • Lead team-level project reviews to maintain visibility of progress, risks, and dependencies.
  • Drive consistency in project delivery processes, reporting standards, and use of systems (Oracle Apex, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project).
  • Coordinate resource allocation across the team, balancing workload and flagging capacity constraints to the Project Delivery Manager.
  • Identify training and development needs within the team and deliver coaching and mentoring.
  • Support onboarding of new PMs, ensuring they are set up with clear expectations and access to tools and processes.
Project Delivery
  • Act as the single point of accountability for assigned clients throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the early engagement process following sales handover — confirm site dates, programme requirements, and issue the Letter of Introduction.
  • Issue technical submittals to the client and manage the approval process, coordinating with the Engineering team on content and ensuring approvals are secured before progressing to production.
  • Manage the BIM coordination process with the BIM team, including modelling schedules, design freeze, and drawing submittals through ACC, and confirm client approval of drawings.
  • Manage scope changes, variations, and client communications throughout the project.
  • Confirm projected and actual batch splits and dates; manage task creation and demand class updates within Oracle Apex / Project Workbench.
  • Coordinate with Production Planning on scheduling, slotting, and production release (including site measures).
  • Identify long-lead items and risks; coordinate with Purchasing on material requirements.
  • Manage project budgets, contract structures, revenue, and burdened costs.
  • Submit monthly applications for payment and manage invoicing.
  • Support variation and change management, including final measure reconciliation.
  • Develop and maintain the project programme (Microsoft Project) with the Planning team.
  • Manage project risks, issues, dependencies, and actions (RIDAC).
  • Confirm and submit delivery dates to the client; coordinate logistics and dispatch with the Transport Department.
  • Issue construction drawings to the Site Deployment PM for the installation phase.
  • Coordinate preparation of as-built drawings and O&M manuals, and issue to the client.
  • Lead the project close-out review and lessons learned sessions.
Reporting & Governance
  • Provide regular portfolio-level reporting to the Project Delivery Manager, covering delivery status, commercial performance, and risk.
  • Review and challenge project commercial performance across the team, ensuring PMs are managing budgets and variations effectively.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of project delivery procedures, templates, and governance frameworks.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement across the team.
Requirements
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of project commercial management, including revenue recognition, cost control, and variation management.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (Oracle EBS or similar) and project workbench tools.
  • Understanding of busbar trunking systems and electrical distribution within data centre and MEP environments.
  • Familiarity with BIM processes, design freeze procedures, and common data environments.
  • Competence in project planning tools (Microsoft Project or similar).
  • Knowledge of procurement coordination tools (Smartsheet or similar).
Soft Skills
  • Proven people leadership skills — ability to coach, develop, and hold a team accountable.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage upward, across functions, and with clients.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and a calm, structured approach under pressure.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across own projects and team oversight simultaneously.
  • Collaborative leadership style that builds trust and drives performance.
Experience
  • Minimum 7 years' project management experience within a manufacturing, MEP, or data centre environment.
  • At least 2 years in a team lead, senior PM, or people management capacity.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex projects and developing others to do the same.
  • Experience working within engineer-to-order or project-driven organisations.
  • Track record of client-facing project ownership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline (minimum).
  • Professional project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or IPMA) preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, switchgear, or busbar trunking preferred.
  • History of successful cross-functional collaboration, especially in a matrixed or multi-site organisation.
