Job description

Location: Dunboyne, Co. Meath (Hybrid Working Model)

Introduction

A leading provider of communications, SCADA and instrumentation solutions, working across industrial sectors including water, power, utilities, corporate business, broadcasting and public safety. With a proven track record spanning over four decades, the organisation delivers innovative infrastructure and technology solutions to a diverse client base.

Overview of Role

As Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of significant multi-site infrastructure programmes. Acting as the primary interface between the company, clients, engineering consultancies and the wider supply chain, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within scope and to agreed commercial objectives.

This is not a purely administrative project management position. We are looking for a commercially astute and delivery-focused professional who can independently lead major projects, manage contractual relationships, identify and secure project variations, control budgets and represent the company confidently at senior stakeholder level.

While experience in SCADA, automation or Operational Technology (OT) is advantageous, we are equally interested in candidates with strong commercial project management experience gained within infrastructure, engineering, utilities or similarly complex technical environments.

The Candidate

You are a commercially aware and delivery-driven project professional who takes ownership and leads from the front. You proactively manage programmes, identify risks and commercial opportunities, challenge assumptions and ensure accountability across project teams.

You are equally comfortable engaging with senior client stakeholders and engineering teams and can confidently lead complex project discussions while maintaining a strong focus on delivery, commercial performance and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
  • Take full day-to-day ownership of a major multi-site infrastructure project from mobilisation through to commissioning, handover and contractual closeout.
  • Develop, own and maintain the detailed project delivery programme, including design, procurement, engineering, FAT, site deployment, SAT and commissioning activities.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of the critical path and proactively manage project dependencies, constraints, interfaces and recovery actions.
  • Lead project mobilisation, kick-off meetings, internal delivery reviews, client progress meetings and programme reviews.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering resources, subcontractors, suppliers and external partners to achieve agreed milestones.
  • Ensure project deliverables are clearly defined, allocated, tracked and driven to completion.
  • Provide concise, accurate and timely project reporting to the Head of Delivery & Service and senior management.
Commercial & Financial Management
  • Take a commercially proactive approach to project delivery and actively protect the company's contractual and financial position.
  • Understand the project scope, pricing assumptions, commercial structure, contract requirements and agreed exclusions in detail.
  • Manage project budgets, cost forecasts, revenue, cashflow and cost-to-complete in conjunction with Finance and Commercial teams.
  • Prepare and support monthly applications for payment, ensuring completed work and earned value are accurately reflected in project valuations.
  • Identify scope change, additional works and potential variations at the earliest possible opportunity and ensure they are formally recorded.
  • Ensure variations are commercially assessed, priced and agreed before additional work is undertaken wherever practicable.
  • Monitor project margin and forecast financial performance throughout the project lifecycle, implementing corrective action where required.
  • Challenge scope creep and ensure the company is appropriately compensated for work outside the agreed contractual scope.
  • Maintain robust commercial records, project correspondence and supporting documentation for all claims, changes and decisions.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
  • Act as the primary day-to-day project contact for the client and associated engineering consultancy organisations.
  • Develop strong working relationships with client project teams, engineering consultants, operational stakeholders and third-party suppliers.
  • Lead structured client progress meetings and provide clear updates on programme, risk, commercial matters, actions and project delivery.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations through proactive communication, formal reporting and timely escalation of issues.
  • Represent the company professionally and confidently in senior project, technical and commercial discussions.
  • Work collaboratively with major engineering consultancy groups while ensuring the company's delivery and commercial interests remain appropriately represented.
Engineering & Technical Coordination
  • Work closely with Principal Engineers and technical specialists to coordinate design and engineering activities.
  • Ensure technical deliverables, Functional Design Specifications, drawings and engineering documentation are developed in line with the approved programme.
  • Coordinate technical reviews, FAT, SAT and commissioning activities and ensure actions are driven to timely closure.
  • Ensure engineering resources have clearly defined priorities, deliverables and deadlines.
  • Facilitate resolution of technical issues and ensure the appropriate engineering expertise is engaged where required.
  • Maintain sufficient technical understanding to lead complex systems integration projects; detailed hands-on SCADA programming experience is not essential.
Essential Experience
Technical & Professional
  • Minimum 5 years' project management experience within infrastructure, engineering, utilities, systems integration or a similarly complex technical environment.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering projects or programmes with values typically in excess of €1 million.
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-site or phased delivery programmes from mobilisation through to handover.
  • Experience working directly with major clients and large-scale engineering consultancy organisations.
  • Strong programme planning, sequencing and critical path management capability.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering or technical delivery teams.
  • Proven track record of delivering technical projects safely, on programme and within agreed commercial targets.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Project or equivalent project planning and project control tools.
  • Recognised Project Management qualification such as PMP, PRINCE2 or APM is advantageous but not essential where significant delivery experience can be demonstrated.
Desirable Experience
  • SCADA, industrial automation or Operational Technology projects.
  • PLC and control systems, telemetry or communications network projects.
  • Water or wastewater infrastructure and regulated utility environments.
  • Complex systems integration or cyber security projects within operational environments.
  • Experience working alongside major engineering consultancies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Ireland and attend client or project sites as required.
  • Full valid driving licence.
  • Flexibility to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team across office, site and remote environments.
