Job summary

Cunningham is inviting applications for a one-year Placement Year as a Quantity Surveyor, based at our Head Office in Newry. The role requires spending 3-4 days per week on site to gain hands-on experience on projects across Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare, with potential exposure to international projects in Germany, Sweden and other EU countries.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the placement offers practical development in contract quantity surveying, procurement, cost control and reporting

Qualifications

• Candidates should be studying a degree level qualification (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying.
• Sound Commercial Awareness

Responsibilities

• Assist Quantity Surveyor with contract quantity surveying duties.
• Assist with the procurement of subcontractors.
• Assist with contract variations and help measure with Senior Quantity Surveyors.
• Help with payments and distribute notices to suppliers and subcontractors.
• Assist with project cost control and cost reporting.
• Develop a good understanding of the processes and procedures of the Commercial department and actively seek to assist in development and improvement where possible.

REPORTING TO

Commercial Manager

LOCATION

This role is based at our Head Office in Newry; however, you must be willing to spend a minimum of 3-4 days per week on site, gaining hands‑on experience on exciting projects across Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare, with potential exposure to international projects in Germany, Sweden and other EU countries.

Flexibility to travel is essential, but we’ll provide the necessary accommodation and support to help you make the most of these opportunities.

The Candidate

Qualifications & Experience

• Candidates should be studying a degree level qualification (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying.
• Sound Commercial Awareness

Skills & Attributes

• Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis.
• Excellent team player whilst also holding the ability to work independently on own initiative.
• Excellent time management skills, with ability to work to tight deadlines.

Additional information

• All candidates should have the legal right or a valid permit to that enables them to work in the Republic of Ireland and the UK.
• Travel to various sites and live projects across Ireland will be expected as part of normal duties for this role, therefore a full driving licence and access to own vehicle will be an advantage.
• As part of this role, you will be expected to work outdoors on live construction sites all year‑round in varying weather conditions.
