Job summary

Cunningham Contracts is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial support to the project team, maintain commercial information, and ensure compliance with contractual requirements. You will liaise with client representatives on variations, claims, and payments.

The role requires a degree in Quantity Surveying and at least four years of post-graduate experience in the construction industry with a contractor.

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 4 years post grad experience in construction with a contractor.
  • Residential projects experience in Ireland desirable.
  • Familiarity with various forms of contract; Public Works Ireland desirable.
  • Extensive experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial support to the project team and maintain commercial information.
  • Ensure robust cost and value reporting at project and business unit level.
  • Carry out cost management including forecasting and cash flow reporting.
  • Coach and mentor Junior Quantity Surveyors within the department.
  • Manage subcontract letting, negotiation and financial accounting.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for providing commercial support to the project team, maintaining commercial information and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements. The Quantity Surveyor will liaise with customer representatives and other third parties on commercial issues including agreement of variations, claims and any additional payments.

Role Responsibilities
  • Ensure robust, accurate and timely cost and value reporting at both project and business unit level.
  • Ensure accurate cash flow reporting takes place.
  • Carry out cost management including forecasting.
  • Update the monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans and have accountability, along with the project team for the commercial performance and strategy.
  • Ensure that any sub-contractors have agreed terms and conditions that are appropriate for Cuningham Contracts, with commercial risks identified.
  • Ensure that the supply chain are engaged appropriately with the correct contract terms and conditions.
  • Ensure that good client relationships are fostered.
  • Be responsible for subcontract letting, negotiation and financial accounting.
  • Ensure effective interaction between the commercial team and the operational site teams.
  • Help ensure that commercial processes are adhered to across the Commercial department.
  • Have a good understanding of the processes and procedures of the Commercial department, and actively seek to assist in development and improvement where possible.
  • Coach and mentor Junior Quantity Surveyors within the Commercial department, sharing knowledge and best practice.
  • Act as mentor to any apprentices that may be attached to the Commercial department, sharing knowledge and best practice, acting as a point of contact for any queries, and providing feedback on the apprentice as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
  • Degree level qualification in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 4 years post grad experience in the Construction industry, working with a contractor
  • Previous experience on Residential projects in Ireland is desirable
  • Familiarity with various form of contract, Public works Ireland is desirable
  • Extensive experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates and accruals calculations.
  • Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis.
  • Excellent team player whilst also holding the ability to work independently on own initiative.
  • Excellent time management skills, with ability to work to tight deadlines.
