Irish Specialist Mechanical & Industrial Contractor in Co Cork seeks an experienced Operations & Commercial Manager to lead the commercial and operational performance of multiple projects from contract award through final account.

With a background in Quantity Surveying or commercial management and strong mechanical knowledge, you will oversee cost control, valuations, variations, and client relationships, with travel across Ireland and Europe.

Qualifications

• Must have strong Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or project commercial experience within construction.
• Proven experience in valuations, variations, forecasting, cost control and final accounts.
• Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to read and interpret mechanical layouts, isometric drawings and P&IDs.
• Experience managing the commercial performance of multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects commercially and operationally from award through to completion and final account.
• Monitor project expenditure, labour productivity, margins and commercial performance.
• Prepare valuations and monthly applications for payment.
• Prepare, negotiate and recover variations and change orders.
• Forecast final project costs and profitability.
• Manage final account submissions and negotiations.
• Coordinate labour, subcontractors, materials and project requirements.
• Attend client, site and commercial meetings across Ireland and Europe.
• Identify project risks before they affect programme or profitability.

The Company

Irish specialist contractor delivering industrial insulation and mechanical services packages across Ireland and Europe, with the majority of its work in data centre, pharmaceutical and life sciences environments.

Based in Co Cork, the business already works with a number of major M&E contractors and is forecasting a significant increase in projects across Ireland and Europe. This is a close-knit business with an open office environment and direct access to senior management.

The Role: Operations & Commercial Manager

This is a senior Operations & Commercial Manager position reporting directly to the Managing Director.

You’ll take responsibility for the commercial and operational performance of multiple projects from contract award through to final account, covering cost control, valuations, variations, labour productivity, programme delivery and client relationships.

The ideal candidate will come from a Quantity Surveying or commercial background with strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to understand mechanical layouts, isometric drawings and P&IDs.

You’ll work closely with clients, M&E contractors, site supervisors, procurement and company management, with travel to projects across Ireland and Europe as required.

Must Have Requirements

• Must have strong Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or project commercial experience within construction
• Proven experience required in valuations, variations, forecasting, cost control and final accounts
• Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to read and interpret mechanical layouts, isometric drawings and P&IDs
• Experience managing the commercial performance of multiple projects simultaneously
• Full clean driving licence and flexibility to travel within Ireland and Europe

Preferred Experience

• Mechanical services or industrial insulation experience preferred
• Data centre, pharmaceutical or life sciences project experience beneficial
• Experience dealing directly with M&E contractors and clients
• Strong Microsoft Excel and project reporting skills

About You

You’ll be commercially strong, practical and comfortable taking ownership of projects. A Quantity Surveying background combined with mechanical construction knowledge would be particularly well suited to this position.

Just as importantly, you’ll need to suit a close-knit working environment where communication is direct and decisions are made quickly. You should be comfortable working directly with the Managing Director, clients and project teams while maintaining a clear view of costs, programme and profitability.

Working hours are 8:00am to 4:40pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00am to 3:30pm Friday.
