The Company

This Irish mechanical services contractor delivers mechanical and building services packages across technically demanding construction and engineering projects throughout Ireland, the UK and Germany.

With a strong pipeline of work across all three markets, the company has continued to grow its project delivery capability. The Co Mayo operation is an important base for the business, and they are now looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer who can take real ownership of projects from there, coordinating closely with site, commercial, procurement and client teams.

The Role: Mechanical Project Engineer

This Mechanical Project Engineer position will be based out of Co Mayo, with responsibility for taking control of mechanical projects from initial planning and procurement through to installation, commissioning and handover.

This is not a support engineering position. The company needs someone who can take ownership of their projects, manage the programme and stay on top of procurement, technical coordination, fabrication, installation and client requirements.

You will work closely with the commercial team, site management, supervisors, subcontractors and suppliers, making sure labour, materials, technical information and project decisions are in place when required.

Must Have Requirements

• Must have previous experience delivering mechanical projects within construction, building services or engineering
• Proven experience required taking responsibility for projects and driving works to programme
• Strong technical knowledge of mechanical services, piping, fabrication and installation is required
• Must be comfortable coordinating clients, site teams, suppliers and subcontractors

Preferred Experience

• Mechanical contractor or building services contractor experience preferred
• Experience across industrial, commercial or technically demanding construction projects beneficial
• Procurement and material management experience preferred
• Experience coordinating fabrication and installation packages would be advantageous

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of assigned mechanical projects from initial planning through to completion
• Develop and manage project programmes and ensure key milestones are achieved
• Coordinate mechanical installation works with site teams and supervisors
• Manage procurement of mechanical equipment, materials and specialist packages
• Review drawings, specifications and technical documentation
• Coordinate piping, mechanical services, fabrication and installation requirements
• Manage RFIs and technical queries throughout project delivery
• Liaise directly with clients, consultants and other project stakeholders
• Coordinate suppliers and subcontractors and monitor their performance
• Track labour, materials and project progress against programme
• Work closely with the Quantity Surveyor and commercial team on variations, costs and procurement
• Monitor quality inspections and ensure works meet project specifications
• Ensure mechanical works are delivered in accordance with relevant safety and quality requirements
• Attend project and client meetings and provide clear progress update
• Identify programme or technical issues early and drive them through to resolution
• Support testing, commissioning, snagging and project handover

About You

You will be a Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Project Engineer with enough practical project experience to take ownership rather than needing constant direction.

You should understand how mechanical projects actually come together, including procurement, fabrication, piping, installation, subcontractor coordination, quality inspections and commissioning.

Strong organisation is important. You will be managing several moving parts at once and need to stay ahead of drawings, materials, labour, programme and client requirements.

You will also need to be confident dealing directly with clients and site teams, making decisions and taking responsibility for getting projects delivered properly.
