Qualifications

Responsibilities

Night Porter – Specified Purpose, Full-Time

Highfield Healthcare is seeking a reliable, professional and enthusiastic Night Porter to join our team.

Contract: Specified Purpose until dend of December 2026 with the possibility to be extended to January 2027

Working Hours: 7 shifts per fortnight, 8:00pm – 8:00am and 8.30pm to 8.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Post Overview

The Night Porter will be responsible for maintaining a safe, secure and professional environment throughout Highfield Healthcare during night-time hours. The post holder will provide a visible presence at reception, monitor access to the premises, undertake scheduled security and safety checks, and provide support to the Night Nursing Officer and other staff as required.

The role includes undertaking scheduled checks at Elmhurst Nursing Home and Elmhurst Day Hospital in Glasnevin, ensuring that designated doors, windows, entrances, exits and other relevant areas are appropriately secured and that any concerns or irregularities are promptly reported.

The Night Porter will be required to work independently for periods during the night and must demonstrate reliability, good judgement, professionalism and the ability to respond calmly and appropriately to incidents or emergencies.

Qualifications and/or Experience

All applicants will be required to have:

• Previous experience in a porter, security, healthcare, hospitality, reception or other relevant customer-facing/support role would be desirable.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• The ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with residents, patients, families, visitors and staff.
• The ability to work independently and use initiative while also working effectively as part of a team.
• The ability to remain calm and respond appropriately to unexpected situations, incidents and emergencies.
• Good observational skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to maintain accurate written records and logs.
• Reliability, flexibility and excellent timekeeping.
• The ability to undertake the physical requirements of the role, including regular walking and security rounds throughout a 12-hour night shift.
• The ability to travel between designated Highfield Healthcare locations during the shift as required.
• An understanding of the importance of confidentiality, dignity and discretion within a healthcare environment.
