Job description

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Our client is a leading international contractor specialising in the delivery of technically complex mechanical and electrical packages for some of the most demanding clients in the built environment. Their work sits at the heart of critical infrastructure, where precision, reliability and performance under pressure are non-negotiable.

Built on a reputation for engineering excellence and dependable delivery, the business has become a trusted partner to blue-chip end users and main contractors across the data centre, life sciences and advanced manufacturing sectors. Many of these relationships span multiple programmes and many years, underpinned by a track record of delivering on time, on budget and to exacting technical standards.

Sustained demand across mission-critical and high-tech sectors has created a strong, long-term project pipeline throughout Europe. To support this next phase of growth, the business is strengthening its senior leadership team with a Commercial Director who will bring rigour, insight and strategic direction to a growing regional portfolio.

This is a business that invests in its leaders. Senior appointments are given genuine autonomy, a visible voice in strategic decision-making, and the backing of an organisation that rewards performance and long-term commitment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PROJECTS

You will lead commercial performance across a portfolio of large-scale, fast-track M&E programmes, typically involving substantial mechanical, electrical and process-critical installations delivered to demanding programmes and exacting specifications. The scale and complexity of these projects make commercial leadership a true driver of business performance.

Reporting at senior level, you will oversee a team of commercial managers and quantity surveyors across multiple live projects, working alongside operations, engineering and pre-construction leadership. The culture is collaborative, accountable and commercially astute, with open lines of communication from site teams through to the executive board.

The role combines a Dublin base with regular travel to project locations across Europe, giving you direct visibility of live delivery, face-to-face engagement with clients and supply chain partners, and a genuinely international leadership remit. Your influence will extend from tender strategy and contract negotiation through to final account, giving you ownership of commercial outcomes across the full project lifecycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide strategic commercial leadership across a multi-project European M&E portfolio, driving margin, cash flow and overall financial performance
  • Lead, develop and mentor a regional team of commercial managers and quantity surveyors, setting standards and building capability
  • Oversee tender reviews, pricing strategy and bid approvals in partnership with pre-construction and estimating leadership
  • Lead the negotiation and management of main contracts and subcontracts, including bespoke and amended NEC, FIDIC and JCT-based forms
  • Direct commercial risk and opportunity management, ensuring robust change control and early identification of entitlement
  • Oversee cost value reconciliations, forecasting and monthly reporting to the executive leadership team
  • Take senior ownership of final account negotiations and the resolution of complex commercial disputes
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with clients, main contractors and key supply chain partners at senior level
  • Contribute to wider business strategy, commercial governance and the continuous improvement of commercial processes
WHAT YOU NEED
  • Significant commercial management experience within an M&E contractor or specialist building services environment, currently operating at Commercial Director or senior Head of Commercial level
  • A proven track record of leading commercial performance across multiple large-scale, technically complex projects simultaneously
  • Experience within data centre, life sciences, pharmaceutical or advanced manufacturing sectors is highly beneficial but not essential
  • Strong working knowledge of international forms of contract, with demonstrable success in negotiation and dispute resolution
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline; MRICS or MSCSI chartership desirable
  • Proven ability to lead, develop and retain high-performing commercial teams across multiple locations
  • Willingness to travel regularly across European project locations from a Dublin base
WHAT YOU'LL GET IN RETURN

This role offers a base salary of €170,000 alongside an executive-level package, typically including performance-related bonus, car or car allowance, pension and private healthcare. Beyond the package, you will join a business at a pivotal stage of European growth, with a direct hand in shaping commercial strategy, a clear pathway towards board-level responsibility, and the opportunity to build a long-term leadership legacy across a portfolio of landmark mission-critical programmes.
