Job summary

The Portfolio Group is seeking a Litigation Consultant in Ireland to support clients with Workplace Relations Commission complaints and Labour Court appeals. You will own each case from initial contact through hearing, drafting responses, visiting clients, and managing all administrative tasks for successful outcomes.

You will review claims, coordinate with witnesses, prepare hearing bundles, and represent clients at hearings, including remote sessions when required.

Responsibilities

  • Review claims brought against clients in WRC and Labour Court.
  • Support mediation/conciliation matters in WRC and Labour Court.
  • Contact clients early to notify on case conduct and take instructions.
  • Visit clients for hearings and offsite visits across Ireland.
  • Advise clients on merits and prospects of defence.
  • Draft responses and obtain necessary documentation for client approval.
  • Prepare hearing documents/booklets for hearings.
  • Identify witnesses and liaise with them as needed.
  • Correspond with WRC, Labour Court, claimants' representatives and clients.
  • Provide case updates for cover status and reporting to Company.
  • Prepare reports for the Company on claims as required.
  • Complete all administrative tasks for cases.
  • Support other departments as required.
  • Deliver training internally and externally as needed.
  • Discuss Company services/products with clients to generate referrals.
  • Maintain requisite knowledge of employment law and technical skills.

Job description

Job Purpose

As an Litigation Consultant, you will support clients when they receive Workplace Relations Commission complaints and Labour Court appeal papers. You will take ownership of each case and be responsible for drafting responses, visiting clients, preparing cases for hearing and representing clients at both face to face and remote hearings whist managing all administrative work associated with the cases.

Main Duties
  • Review all claims brought against clients in the employment tribunal bodies, specifically the Workplace Relations Commission and the Labour Court
  • Support clients with mediation / conciliation matters in the Workplace Relations Commission and the Labour Court
  • Make early and prompt contact with clients to notify the client of conduct of the case and to advise and take instructions from clients
  • Visit clients as required to include offsite at their premises/offices throughout Ireland
  • Advise clients on the merits of any claim(s) and the prospects of successfully defending claims
  • Obtain all relevant and necessary documentation and draft appropriate responses on behalf of clients for their approval
  • Prepare hearing booklets or documents in the appropriate or agreed format in preparation for hearing
  • Identify witnesses and liaise with witnesses, where required
  • Correspond with the Workplace Relations Commission and the Labour Court, claimants' representatives, and clients
  • To regularly review cases and provide updates as required for the purposes of cover status in relation to the Company, as required
  • Prepare any reports necessary for the Company in respect of any claims as may be required
  • Prepare and complete all administrative tasks associated with your cases
  • Provide support to other departments within the business, as required
  • Engage in and deliver training where required both internally and externally
  • Demonstrate commercial knowledge of the Company's range of services and products and to be able to discuss these with clients as appropriate
  • To proactively assist in the retention of existing clients and to promote new business by obtaining referrals for new clients
  • Responsible for ensuring that the requisite knowledge of employment law and technical skills is of the standard required in order to be able to carry out the work and to the standards as outlined in this job description
  • Attend any company of the Group offices throughout United Kingdom and Ireland as required by management
  • Any other reasonable duties as may be required by management as part of your role
What you Bring to the Team
  • Experience of reviewing and processing claims.

  • Experience of reviewing and processing employment law claims
  • Third Level Qualification in Law / Employment Law / Human Resources / Industrial Relations

  • Attention to detail with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A dynamic and flexible approach to work, as well as the ability to work under pressure
