Job summary

Johnson Controls in Dublin, Ireland is seeking a Principal Product Engineer to lead the mechanical design and performance of European air‑cooled chiller systems. You will act as a technical leader for projects, mentor engineers, and collaborate with design and manufacturing to balance cost, performance, and reliability.

The role requires deep experience in mechanical design, data analysis, and project management, with travel up to 10% within Europe.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline; MS preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in a related field, having released one or more products.
• Strong understanding of fluid and thermal principles.
• Working knowledge of European mechanical and refrigeration codes and standards (CE marking, PED, Machinery Directive, EN 378).
• Proficient in mechanical design, able to conceptualize and implement design ideas into the product.
• Proficient at organizing and processing large amounts of data.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and train other engineers and to act as a technical leader.
• Experience with product development, project management, and sustaining of configurable systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to travel up to 10%, primarily within Europe.

Responsibilities

• Maintains expert-level understanding of fluid, thermal, refrigeration, and mechanical aspects of air-cooled chillers.
• Develops mechanical design and performance of chiller components and systems for the European market.
• Acts as technical leader for projects and design team; mentors Engineer II and Senior Engineers.
• Coordinates with design and manufacturing to balance cost, performance, and reliability.
• Plans complex projects and product releases; defines specifications for multiple features.
• Generates and reviews technical documentation for the product team.
