Job summary

Dublin Simon Community is seeking a committed Support Worker to assist service users in our Usher’s Island accommodation. You will support daily living tasks, personal care, medication access, and health appointments, always applying a person-centred, compassionate approach.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree (level 7 or 8) in Psychology, Community Development, Counselling, Social Care, Social Work, or similar.
• 2 years’ experience in a social or caring setting.
• Understanding of why people become homeless and the needs they have.
• Record keeping and report writing.
• IT skills including Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
• Client-focused, adaptable, accountable, resilient individual.
• Excellent communicator with the ability to advocate for clients.
• Ability to manage challenging behaviour respectfully and professionally.

Responsibilities

• Support the project/keyworkers and management in implementing operational and strategic goals; follow-up on support plan actions and help service users achieve their goals.
• Deliver the personal, professional and social development programme.
• Provide care interventions and daily living skills support including showering, incontinence care, laundry, cleaning.
• Assist with medication/health regimes and healthcare appointments.
• Conduct harm reduction interventions; overdose prevention and stabilisation.
• Manage challenging behaviour and crises with dignity and safety.
• Provide emotional and motivational support and promote positive mental health.
• Process enquiries and referrals to accommodation of service users.
• Support service users in liaising with landlords and relocation when needed.
• Ensure handovers, diaries, incidents, and follow-ups align with policies.
