Job summary

Matrix Recruitment Group is supporting a well-established business in Waterford to appoint an experienced Financial Controller. The role offers the chance to build the finance function from the ground up, partnering with senior leadership to shape strategy and drive growth.

You will own financial management, including month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and performance analysis, with scope to influence critical commercial decisions and ERP initiatives.

Qualifications

• Professional accounting qualification required (ACA/ACCA/CPA/CIMA).
• Experience as Financial Controller or similar senior finance role with full function responsibility.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to influence business decisions.

Responsibilities

What you need to know

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Financial Controller to join a well-established and growing business based in Waterford.

This business combines the energy and opportunity of a start-up with the security and backing of an established organisation. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build the finance function from the ground up, influence how the business operates and play a pivotal role in its future growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the finance function while acting as a trusted business partner to the senior leadership team, taking ownership of all aspects of financial management.
• Manage the month-end and year-end close process and prepare monthly management accounts, financial reporting packs and business performance analysis.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning, providing insightful variance analysis and commercial recommendations.
• Develop project costing models, monitor contract profitability and provide commercial analysis to support pricing, investment and operational decision-making.
• Establish scalable finance processes, controls and reporting frameworks, maintain robust financial controls, and support continuous improvement and future ERP implementation.

Requirements

• A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CPA or CIMA) preferred; Big 4 qualified advantageous.
• Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or in a similar senior finance role with responsibility for the full finance function.
• Excellent commercial acumen with the ability to interpret financial information and influence business decisions.
• Proven stakeholder management skills, with experience partnering with senior leadership and operational teams.
• Experience within construction, engineering, manufacturing, agri or similar environments would be advantageous; strong IT skills and ERP implementation experience are an advantage.
