Job summary

Harper Finley Professional Recruitment seeks an experienced Financial Controller / Finance Manager to lead the finance function in a growing organisation. The role is hands-on, covering financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, payroll oversight and providing commercial financial insights to support performance.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CPA/CIMA) or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years in Financial Controller/Finance Manager roles.
• Proven experience in management accounts and financial reporting.
• Experience budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
• Knowledge of VAT, payroll and statutory compliance.
• Strong audit preparation and financial controls experience.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong organisational and deadline management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts within agreed deadlines.
• Produce quarterly financial reports for senior leadership.
• Oversee year-end accounts and external audit processes.
• Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity.
• Deliver regular revenue and financial performance reports.
• Complete VAT returns and statutory submissions.
• Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasting processes.
• Analyze financial performance vs. budget and report variances.
• Support department managers with financial reporting and insights.
• Develop and maintain robust financial controls and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax laws.
• Coordinate with external auditors, banks and advisors.
• Oversee AP/AR and credit control functions.
• Review supplier reconciliations and maintain records.
• Supervise payroll processes and compliance.
• Identify cost savings and efficiency opportunities.
• Assess capital expenditure proposals with financial analysis.

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller / Finance Manager to lead the finance function of a well-established and growing organisation. This is a hands-on role responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, payroll oversight and providing commercial financial insight to support business performance.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior management, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting and effective decision-making across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts within agreed deadlines.
• Produce quarterly financial reports for senior leadership.
• Manage year-end accounts preparation and external audit process.
• Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity.
• Produce regular revenue and financial performance reports.
• Complete VAT returns and ensure all statutory returns are submitted accurately and on time.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and prepare rolling financial forecasts.
• Analyse financial performance against budget and provide meaningful variance analysis.
• Support department managers by providing financial reporting and commercial insights.
• Develop, implement and maintain effective financial controls and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Liaise with external auditors, banks and other professional advisors.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit control functions.
• Review supplier reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
• Oversee payroll processes and ensure payroll compliance.
• Monitor departmental expenditure and identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
• Evaluate capital expenditure proposals and prepare financial analysis where required.

Skills & Experience Essential

• Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CPA or CIMA).
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance role.
• Strong experience producing management accounts and financial reporting.
• Experience managing budgeting, forecasting and cash flow.
• Knowledge of VAT, payroll and statutory compliance.
• Strong audit preparation and financial controls experience.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience within hospitality, leisure or service-based industries.
• Experience using ERP or finance systems integrated with operational software.
