Job summary

You will own responsibility for management accounts, cost review, WIP, VAT and RCT compliance, and mentor junior staff while collaborating across finance and operations.

Qualifications

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with 4+ years post-qualification experience.
• Experience in construction or project-based environments is highly relevant.
• Strong grasp of job/contract costing and WIP accounting.
• Good knowledge of Irish VAT and RCT and advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
• Manage month-end close and ensure timely reporting.
• Review project costs, WIP and contract performance on live projects.
• Oversee debtor/creditor retentions and invoicing with Commercial Team.
• Collaborate with QS and project teams to ensure accurate project financials.
• Support auditors, banks, Revenue and other external stakeholders.

Townmore is continuing to grow, and we’re looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join our Finance Team at our Head Office in Tullamore.

This is a senior, hands‑on finance role that goes beyond traditional financial reporting.

Working closely with our Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers and senior management team, you’ll have direct visibility across the commercial and financial performance of our live construction projects — giving you the opportunity to understand the numbers behind the projects and make a real contribution to business performance.

The Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller / Finance Director, your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
• Managing month-end close and ensuring accurate, timely reporting
• Reviewing project costs, WIP and contract performance across live construction projects
• Managing debtor and creditor retentions
• Working closely with QS and project teams to ensure accurate project financials
• Overseeing RCT and VAT compliance, including reverse charge
• Preparing company and project‑level cash flow forecasts
• Supporting invoicing and debtor management alongside the Commercial Team
• Supervising and developing junior members of the Finance Team
• Liaising with auditors, banks, Revenue and other external stakeholders
• Providing financial analysis and insight to support senior management decision‑making

What We’re Looking For

• Fully qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA or CIMA
• Ideally 4+ years’ post‑qualified experience
• Experience within construction, civil engineering or another project‑based industry would be particularly relevant
• Strong understanding of job/contract costing and WIP accounting
• Good knowledge of Irish VAT and RCT
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems would be an advantage
• A strong commercial mindset and the ability to work effectively with both finance and non‑finance teams
