Job summary

highr is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the finance function and support growth for a leading Irish contractor across civil engineering, earthworks, quarrying and haulage. The role reports to the Managing Director and combines financial reporting, cash flow, compliance, project performance and strategic financial planning.

Key activities include monthly management accounts, budgets, WIP and contract costing, and collaboration with operations teams to improve profitability

Qualifications

• Qualified Accountant with ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role.
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, reporting and commercial analysis experience.
• Excellent knowledge of Irish taxation and statutory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections.
• Monitor profitability including WIP and contract costing.
• Oversee banking, working capital, debtors, creditors and asset financing.
• Manage VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax, RCT and statutory compliance.

Job description

Our client, a leading Irish contractor operating across civil engineering, earthworks, plant hire, quarry products and haulage, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the finance function and support the continued growth of the business.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a senior, commercially focused role with responsibility for financial reporting, cash flow, compliance, project performance and strategic financial planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections.
• Monitor business and project profitability, including WIP and contract costing.
• Manage banking, working capital, debtors, creditors and asset financing.
• Oversee VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax, RCT and statutory compliance.
• Lead payroll, finance administration and internal financial controls.
• Work closely with the Managing Director, QS, Contracts and Operational teams.
• Provide financial analysis to support business planning, investment and growth.
• Manage relationships with auditors, accountants, banks and professional advisers.
• Improve financial reporting systems, processes and operational efficiencies.

Requirements

• Qualified Accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role.
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, reporting and commercial analysis experience.
• Excellent knowledge of Irish taxation and statutory requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience in construction, civil engineering, quarrying, haulage or plant hire is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of project accounting, WIP and contract costing is an advantage.
