Job summary

MPG Recruitment is partnering with a growing MSP in Kilkenny to recruit a Field Service Engineer. This hands-on role is split between the Kilkenny office and client sites, with you acting as the face of the business while installing, configuring and supporting IT infrastructure with a strong networking focus.

You will install and troubleshoot hardware and software, set up network devices (firewalls, switches, routers, Wi-Fi), support senior engineers on projects, and maintain clear documentation

Qualifications

• Experience in field engineer or IT support, ideally MSP.
• Strong networking experience: firewalls, switching, routing, VLANs, Wi‑Fi.
• Experience with Windows and Microsoft 365; end-user hardware.
• Full, clean driving licence required.
• Certs or IT qualifications helpful but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite and remote support to a diverse client base.
• Install, configure and troubleshoot IT hardware and software.
• Install and set up network devices including firewalls, switches, routers and Wi-Fi.
• Support senior engineers on project installations.
• Record all work clearly in ticketing and documentation systems.

MPG Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a well-established and growing Managed Service Provider (MSP) in Kilkenny. They’re looking for a Field Service Engineer to join their Technical Services team.

This is a hands‑on role, split between the Kilkenny office and client sites. You’ll be the face of the business with clients, installing, configuring and supporting their IT infrastructure, with a strong focus on networking. It’s a great opportunity for someone who likes being out from behind a desk, enjoys variety and wants to grow their skills on real projects alongside senior engineers.

The Role

• Provide professional, friendly onsite and remote support to a varied client base
• Install, configure and troubleshoot IT hardware and software
• Install and set up network devices, including firewalls, switches, routers and wireless access points
• Support senior engineers on project installs
• Spot opportunities to improve clients’ IT systems and operations
• Build strong client relationships and deliver excellent customer service
• Keep clients and internal teams updated on progress and issues
• Record all work clearly in the ticketing and documentation systems
• Make sure SLA targets are met

About You

• Previous experience in a field engineer, IT support or similar hands‑on role, ideally within an MSP
• Strong networking experience, including firewalls, switching, routing, VLANs and Wi‑Fi
• Good working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft 365 and end‑user hardware
• Confident and professional when dealing with clients face to face
• Organised, with strong attention to detail in documenting your work
• A team player who’s eager to learn and develop
• A full, clean driving licence is essential
• Networking certifications (e.g. CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Fortinet, Meraki) or an IT qualification are an advantage but not essential

What’s on Offer

• Salary of €35,000 – €45,000, depending on experience
