Job summary

METLEN is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join our Power Technologies team at the North Wall Power Plant in Dublin, Ireland. You will ensure environmental compliance and support sustainable operation of a thermal power facility, working with Operations, Maintenance, HSE, and regulators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Familiar with EPA submission and EPA online platform.
• Experience in environmental compliance within power generation or heavy industry.
• Knowledge of Ireland/EU environmental legislation and permitting.
• Experience with environmental monitoring, reporting, auditing and compliance management.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems is desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data interpretation.
• Effective communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in MS Office and environmental reporting tools.
• Familiarity with IED and emissions permitting frameworks.
• Experience working with environmental regulators.

Your role will encompass:

• Monitor and manage environmental aspects related to plant operations, including air emissions, water discharge, waste management, noise, and resource consumption.
• Support the preparation and submission of environmental reports to regulatory authorities and other stakeholders.
• Coordinate environmental monitoring programs and analyze operational environmental performance data.
• Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and compliance assessments across the plant.
• Investigate environmental incidents, non-conformances, and complaints, and support the implementation of corrective actions.
• Provide environmental guidance and support to Operations and Maintenance teams.
• Assist in maintaining and improving the site's Environmental Management System (EMS), including compliance with ISO 14001 requirements.
• Liaise with environmental regulators, consultants, contractors, and external stakeholders as required.
• Support environmental improvement initiatives focused on emissions reduction, waste minimization, energy efficiency, and sustainability.

What you bring to the role:

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Familiar with EPA submission and EPA online platform.
• Previous experience in environmental compliance within power generation, industrial facilities, energy, utilities, manufacturing, or heavy industry environments.
• Good understanding of environmental legislation and permitting requirements in Ireland and/or the European Union.
• Experience with environmental monitoring, reporting, auditing, and compliance management.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret environmental data and identify improvement opportunities.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications and environmental reporting tools.
• Familiarity with Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) requirements, emissions monitoring, and environmental permitting frameworks.
• Experience working with environmental regulators and external authorities.
