Job summary

Ramboll is seeking an experienced Environmental Assurance Engineer to support environmental compliance and sustainability on major infrastructure projects in Ireland, including metro, aviation, rail, water and highways.

You will work with the Environmental Assurance Lead and project teams to embed environmental standards across design and construction, contributing to performance monitoring and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Experience in environmental or sustainability roles on infrastructure or construction projects.
  • Understanding of environmental legislation, compliance requirements, and consenting processes.
  • Experience supporting environmental assurance, monitoring or auditing activities on construction sites.
  • Familiarity with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and implementation of environmental commitments.
  • Understanding of sustainability principles, including carbon management and resource efficiency.
  • Ability to review technical environmental documents and identify risks and mitigations.
  • Strong attention to detail with good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and coordination across multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support environmental assurance processes to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and project requirements.
  • Monitor contractor environmental performance via site inspections, audits and reporting.
  • Review CEMPs, method statements and risk assessments for environmental implications.
  • Support implementation of environmental management systems and assurance frameworks.
  • Identify and mitigate environmental risks and non-conformances on projects.
  • Coordinate data collection and contribute to reporting on environmental performance.
  • Support delivery of environmental commitments arising from EIA and planning approvals.
  • Provide environmental advice to project teams and assist in day-to-day site decisions.
  • Engage with stakeholders and regulators on environmental matters as required.
  • Support sustainability initiatives, including carbon management and waste management.

Job description

Are you an experienced Environmental Assurance Engineer with a strong track record in supporting environmental compliance and sustainability on major infrastructure projects? You will play a key role in ensuring environmental requirements are implemented effectively across nationally significant D&B infrastructure projects in Ireland including metro, aviation, rail, water and highway schemes.

Your new role

As Environmental Assurance Engineer, you will support the delivery of environmental compliance and sustainability objectives across major infrastructure projects in Ireland. You will work closely with the Environmental Assurance Lead, project teams, and contractors to ensure environmental standards, commitments, and best practices are embedded into the design and construction process. You will contribute to environmental assurance activities, monitoring performance and supporting the implementation of environmental and sustainability initiatives across the project lifecycle.

Working pattern

Hybrid role requiring office and site attendance as required, with a majority of projects delivered in and around Dublin.

Your key responsibilities will be:
  • Supporting environmental assurance processes to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, approvals, and project requirements
  • Monitoring contractor environmental performance, including site inspections, audits and reporting
  • Reviewing and assessing environmental documentation such as CEMPs, method statements and risk assessments
  • Supporting the implementation of environmental management systems and assurance frameworks
  • Assisting in the identification, management and mitigation of environmental risks and non-conformances
  • Coordinating environmental data collection and contributing to reporting on environmental performance
  • Supporting delivery of environmental commitments arising from EIA and planning approvals
  • Providing environmental advice to project teams and supporting day-to-day site-based decision-making
  • Assisting with stakeholder and regulator engagement on environmental compliance matters as required
  • Supporting sustainability initiatives, including carbon, resource efficiency, and waste management
  • Promoting best practice in environmental management and contributing to continuous improvement
About you
  • Experience in an environmental or sustainability role on infrastructure or construction projects (e.g. metro, aviation, rail, water and highways schemes)
  • Understanding of environmental legislation, compliance requirements, and consenting processes
  • Experience supporting environmental assurance, monitoring or auditing activities on construction sites
  • Familiarity with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and implementation of environmental commitments
  • Understanding of sustainability principles, including carbon management, climate resilience, and resource efficiency
  • Ability to review technical environmental documents and identify key risks and mitigation measures
  • Strong attention to detail, with good analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Proactive and organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Degree in environmental science, engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. ISSSP, PMI, APM, MIEMA / MISEP or equivalent). Chartership (e.g. CEnv or equivalent) is preferable
