About the Opportunity
A leading Tier 1 International Contractor is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to support the delivery of multiple Data Centre projects across Europe.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager, Electrical Design Manager, Lead Electrical Engineer, Electrical Project Manager, MEP Design Manager or Senior Electrical Engineer to take responsibility for the technical coordination and engineering delivery of major Electrical Building Services packages.
Working closely with Project Directors, Design Managers, Electrical Project Managers, BIM Teams, Commercial Teams, Procurement Teams, Commissioning Managers and Client Representatives, the successful Electrical Engineering Manager will provide technical leadership across the complete project lifecycle.
The role will ensure that Electrical Engineering solutions are technically compliant, fully coordinated, commercially aligned, constructible and delivered in accordance with project programmes, client standards and Data Centre operational requirements.
The Role - Electrical Engineering Manager
As Electrical Engineering Manager, you will take responsibility for the management, coordination and technical assurance of all Electrical Engineering activities across assigned Data Centre projects.
The successful Electrical Engineering Manager will lead Electrical Engineers, Design Coordinators, BIM Engineers and specialist vendors while coordinating engineering inputs from design, procurement, construction, commissioning and client teams.
You will manage the development and review of Electrical Building Services designs, technical submittals, calculations, equipment schedules, single-line diagrams, BIM models, procurement packages and commissioning documentation.
The Electrical Engineering Manager will also support project planning, design release, long-lead procurement, construction readiness, energisation, commissioning and final handover.
Key Responsibilities of the Electrical Engineering Manager
Electrical Engineering Management
- Lead the Electrical Engineering function across major Hyperscale and Colocation Data Centre projects.
- Manage Electrical Engineers, Design Coordinators, BIM Engineers, specialist subcontractors and vendor engineering teams.
- Ensure Electrical Engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with project specifications, client standards, statutory requirements and agreed design programmes.
- Coordinate engineering activities from concept and detailed design through construction, commissioning, energisation and handover.
- Provide technical leadership and engineering support to Project Directors, Electrical Project Managers and Construction Teams.
Electrical Design & Technical Coordination
- Manage the design and coordination of LV, MV and HV Electrical Infrastructure, Transformers, Switchgear, UPS Systems, Standby Generators, Busbar Systems, Power Distribution, Cable Containment, Lighting, Small Power, Fire Alarm, Security, ICT, Earthing, Lightning Protection, BMS and EPMS systems.
- Review electrical calculations, protection studies, load schedules, cable sizing, discrimination studies, voltage-drop calculations and short-circuit studies.
- Coordinate single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, equipment schedules, technical specifications and design narratives.
- Lead multidisciplinary design coordination across Electrical, Mechanical, CSA, BIM, Fire, Security and Controls disciplines.
- Ensure designs are fully coordinated, constructible, maintainable and aligned with project phasing and commissioning requirements.
Design Programme & Information Release
- Develop and manage Electrical Engineering design programmes, deliverable schedules and information release plans.
- Coordinate engineering priorities with procurement, construction and commissioning milestones.
- Track technical submittals, RFIs, design approvals, client comments and outstanding engineering actions.
- Identify design risks, programme constraints, interface issues and information gaps at an early stage.
- Implement recovery plans and revised engineering strategies where design delivery falls behind programme requirements.
Procurement & Vendor Coordination
- Coordinate technical requirements for major electrical equipment and long-lead procurement packages.
- Review and approve technical submissions from switchgear, transformer, UPS, generator, busbar and specialist system vendors.
- Support technical bid evaluations, vendor selection, procurement reviews and design-assist processes.
- Coordinate factory acceptance testing, manufacturing documentation and equipment data requirements.
- Ensure vendor designs and technical information are fully integrated into the overall project design.
Construction, QA/QC & Technical Support
- Provide technical support to Electrical Construction Managers, Electrical Supervisors, Site Engineers and subcontractors.
- Review construction methodologies, technical queries, installation details and field-change proposals.
- Work closely with QA/QC Teams to ensure Inspection and Test Plans, material approvals, inspections and quality records comply with project requirements.
- Support the resolution of design clashes, technical non-conformances, installation issues and engineering changes.
- Ensure as-built drawings, red-line mark-ups, equipment schedules and handover documentation are completed accurately.
Commissioning, Energisation & Handover
- Coordinate engineering readiness for electrical energisation and commissioning activities.
- Support Level 1-5 Commissioning, functional testing, Integrated Systems Testing and client demonstrations.
- Review commissioning plans, test scripts, cause-and-effect documentation and system operating philosophies.
- Work closely with Commissioning Managers, Authorised Persons and specialist vendors to resolve technical issues during testing and energisation.
- Ensure final Electrical Engineering documentation is complete and aligned with client handover requirements.
Stakeholder & Client Management
- Build strong working relationships with clients, consultants, utility providers, specialist vendors and internal project teams.
- Chair Electrical Engineering meetings, design reviews, technical workshops and interface-coordination sessions.
- Present technical solutions, engineering progress, design risks and mitigation strategies to senior stakeholders.
- Support commercial teams with change management, scope clarification, value engineering and technical assessment of variations.
- Represent the contractor as the lead Electrical Engineering contact across assigned Data Centre projects.
Necessary Requirements of the Electrical Engineering Manager
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status or progress toward chartership would be advantageous.
- 8+ years' experience as an Electrical Engineering Manager, Electrical Design Manager, Lead Electrical Engineer, Electrical Project Manager, MEP Design Manager or Senior Electrical Engineer.
- Proven experience working for a Tier 1 Contractor, M&E Contractor, Electrical Contractor, Engineering Consultancy or Data Centre specialist.
- Strong experience delivering major Data Centre, Hyperscale Data Centre, Colocation, Mission-Critical, Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, Industrial or Advanced Manufacturing projects.
- Strong knowledge of Electrical Building Services design, engineering coordination, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
- Detailed understanding of LV, MV and HV Electrical Systems, Critical Power Infrastructure and Data Centre redundancy requirements.
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate specialist vendors.
- Strong understanding of design programmes, technical submittals, RFIs, BIM coordination, procurement schedules and long-lead equipment.
- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience supporting value engineering, change management and technical risk reviews.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud and electrical design software.
- Flexibility to travel or rotate across European project locations as required.

Desirable Experience
- Previous experience managing Electrical Engineering across multiple European Data Centre projects.
- Experience working directly with hyperscale or colocation Data Centre clients.
- Strong understanding of N+1, N+N, 2N and distributed-redundancy electrical architectures.
- Experience managing specialist equipment vendors across multiple countries.
- Knowledge of European electrical standards, local utility requirements and international design standards.
- Experience supporting early-stage pre-construction, tender design, value engineering and design-assist processes.
- Previous involvement in phased energisation, live-environment works and complex commissioning programmes.
- Experience with NEC, FIDIC or other recognised international construction contract forms.
- Familiarity with ETAP, Amtech, SKM, Caneco, Dialux or similar electrical design software.
- Experience supporting technical recruitment, mentoring and development of Electrical Engineering teams.
