Design Engineer Reporting to: Engineering Manager Location: Ireland or Europe

Role Purpose
Design Engineers at Buttimer Engineering play a key role in delivering innovative, practical, and high-quality engineering solutions across a wide range of projects. Working closely with project managers, site teams, and clients, Design Engineers are responsible for developing detailed designs that meet technical, regulatory, and commercial requirements.
The role involves producing accurate calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports while ensuring compliance with relevant standards and best engineering practice. Design Engineers contribute throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction support, and project completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings for Steel Fabrications and Piping Systems.
- Lead coordination and design discussions with clients, engineers and consultants.
- Represent the company in BIM coordination meetings with other contractors.
- Review, interpret, and interrogate Engineering Drawings and Specifications.
- Work closely with production and site teams to resolve technical and fabrication issues.
- Manage multiple design packages simultaneously, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
- Produce weekly Updates of Federated Navisworks Model.
- Co-ordinating withproject team.
- Contribute to continuous improvement within the design and detailing process.
Requirements
- Minimum 3years’ experience in a relevant role.
- Strong proficiency in Solidworks, Solidworks PDM and Navisworks is essential.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, Plant 3D or similar 3D detailing software would be advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of steel fabrication, erection methods, and project workflows.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in BIM coordination and large-scale projects (e.g., data centres) is an advantage.
