Buttimer Engineering is seeking a Finance Business Partner to join our expanding team in Ireland. You will collaborate closely with engineers and project teams to improve profitability, strengthen financial controls, and support successful delivery of mechanical engineering projects.

Qualified accountant with strong business partnering experience is essential, along with Lean/continuous improvement awareness and advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA or equivalent) with strong business partnering.
  • Experience in engineering, construction, project accounting, manufacturing or industrial sectors.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable recommendations.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering teams to develop accurate cost estimates and pricing models for quotes and tenders.
  • Oversee project budgeting, monitor costs against budget, and provide variance analysis.
  • Support commercial decisions with financial input into negotiations and forecasting.
  • Prepare monthly project reports on margins, utilization, and KPIs; support month-end close for projects.

We are growing, diversified engineering business, specialising in bulk materials handling systems and high-quality steel fabrication. We are expanding into new sectors and regions with our core areas of expertise including engineering design, materials handling, BOP turnkey solutions & modular build.

We currently have an excellent opportunity for aFinance Business Partner, an integral role in our expanding team.

About You

If you are acommercially focusedfinance professionalwho enjoys working alongside engineers and project teams to improve profitability, strengthen financial control and support the successful delivery of mechanical engineering projects then this role is for you.

You are a Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with strong business partnering as well as experience in engineering, construction, project accounting, manufacturing or industrial sectors.

You take an detailed and analytical approach which combined with excellent communication and influencing skills means you have the ability to translate financial data into practical business recommendations. You are familiar with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies and you possess Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems..

Comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment you are a results oriented proactive problem solver who can challenge constructively and manage multiple priorities effectively.

The Role

You will work closely with the business to provide financial insight, commercial support, and robust financial control across engineering projects. You will ensure projects are accurately costed, competitively priced, effectively monitored, and delivered within budget while supporting strategic decision-making through forecasting and financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with engineering teams to develop accurate cost estimates and pricing models for customer quotations and tenders.
  • Review project assumptions, labour costs, material costs, subcontractor costs, and overhead allocations.
  • Support bid reviews to ensure commercial viability and target margin achievement.
  • Provide financial input into contract negotiations and commercial decision-making.

Project Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Develop and maintain project budgets from project initiation through completion.
  • Monitor project costs against budget, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to understand project performance and financial risks.
  • Ensure accurate allocation of labour, materials, overheads, and capital expenditure.
  • Produce monthly project forecasts, including revenue, costs, profitability, and cash flow.
  • Support rolling forecasts and annual budgeting processes.
  • Analyse project trends and provide early warning of cost overruns or delivery risks.
  • Deliver scenario modelling to support business decisions.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports highlighting project performance, margins, utilisation, and KPIs.
  • Provide variance analysis against budgets and forecasts with clear explanations and recommendations.
  • Support month-end and year-end financial close activities relating to projects.

Business Partnering

  • Build strong relationships with Engineering Managers, Project Managers, Procurement, and Operations.
  • Challenge and support operational decisions using financial analysis and commercial insight.
  • Improve financial awareness across engineering teams through coaching and guidance.
  • Attend project review meetings and contribute to decision-making.

Governance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with company financial policies and project governance procedures.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over project costing, revenue recognition, and expenditure approvals.
  • Support audit requirements and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting, and systems of the company.
