Construction Manager Reporting to: Operations Manager Location: Ireland or Europe

Buttimer Engineering is a diversified engineering company specialising in bulk materials handling systems and high-quality steel fabrication. We deliver design, fabrication, procurement, installation, maintenance, commissioning, and full turnkey engineering projects across a wide range of industries, from rural installations to large-scale international ports.

Role Overview

Buttimer Engineering is seeking an experienced and proactive Construction Manager to lead and manage construction activities across a range of engineering projects.

The Construction Manager will be responsible for overseeing site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme, to the required quality standards, and in compliance with contractual, regulatory, and client requirements. The role will act as a key interface between design, construction, and client teams.

Key Responsibilities

Construction & Site Management

  • Manage and oversee on-site construction activities across multiple projects
  • Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, and site teams to ensure safe and efficient delivery of works
  • Monitor progress against programme and support recovery planning where required
  • Ensure construction activities align with approved designs, drawings, and specifications

Health, Safety & Environmental

  • Promote a strong health, safety, and environmental (HSE) culture on site
  • Ensure compliance with relevant H&S legislation, site rules, and project HSE plans
  • Review and approve risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
  • Support incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure works are delivered in accordance with Buttimer Engineering quality procedures and project quality plans
  • Monitor workmanship and materials to ensure compliance with specifications and standards
  • Manage inspections, tests, and snagging processes
  • Coordinate with QA/QC and Document Control to ensure accurate site records

Programme, Cost & Change Control

  • Support the Project Manager with programme monitoring and reporting
  • Identify construction risks, constraints, and opportunities
  • Assist with assessment and management of variations and change control
  • Provide regular site progress reports and updates

Stakeholder & Client Interface

  • Act as the primary site-based point of contact for clients and stakeholders
  • Attend and contribute to site meetings, progress reviews, and coordination meetings
  • Liaise with design teams to resolve construction queries and design clarifications
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in a Construction Manager or similar site leadership role
  • Experience delivering engineering or construction projects
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and site management
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills
  • Strong knowledge of health & safety regulations and best practice
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary engineering projects
  • Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g. ISO 9001)

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline
