Planner Reporting to: Operations Manager Location: Ireland or Europe

Buttimer Engineering is a diversified engineering company specialising in bulk materials handling systems and high-quality steel fabrication. We deliver design, fabrication, procurement, installation, maintenance, commissioning, and full turnkey engineering projects across a wide range of industries, from rural installations to large-scale international ports.

Role Overview

Buttimer Engineering is seeking an experienced and detail-driven Project Planner to support the successful planning, scheduling, and monitoring of engineering projects across multiple sectors.

The Project Planner will work closely with project managers, engineering teams, and senior leadership to develop robust project programmes, track progress, identify risks, and provide clear reporting to support informed decision-making and on-time project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop, maintain, and update project programmes for multidisciplinary engineering projects
  • Establish work breakdown structures (WBS), logic links, and milestones
  • Integrate engineering, procurement, approvals, and delivery activities into project schedules
  • Support tender and proposal planning where required

Progress Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor project progress against baseline schedules
  • Analyse programme performance, critical paths, and schedule variances
  • Produce regular progress reports, look-ahead schedules, and dashboards
  • Support earned value analysis and forecasting where applicable
  • Identify programme risks and constraints and support mitigation planning
  • Assess the schedule impact of change requests and variations
  • Support recovery planning and scenario analysis

Stakeholder & Team Coordination

  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, and external stakeholders to gather progress updates
  • Support planning workshops and programme reviews
  • Provide planning input to project meetings and governance reviews
  • Maintain planning standards, templates, and best practices
  • Support the development of project controls processes within Buttimer Engineering
  • Ensure planning data is accurate, traceable, and aligned with project controls systems
Required Skills & Experience
  • Experience in a planning or project controls role within an engineering, construction, or consultancy environment
  • Strong understanding of project planning principles and methodologies
  • Experience developing and managing complex project programmes
  • High level of proficiency in planning software (e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project,or equivalent)
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills
  • Experience within an engineering consultancy
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary engineering project delivery
  • Experience supporting tender planning and programme risk analysis
  • Knowledge of earned value management (EVM)

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Professional certification (e.g. APM, PMI, or equivalent) (desirable)
