Job summary

bp is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to provide frontline process-engineering support for LNG production, focusing on troubleshooting, performance monitoring, analysis, optimization and process safety. You will assess risks, lead or support RCFA, and optimize maintenance strategies using reliability insights.

The role requires 15+ years of oil and gas experience, strong LNG onshore knowledge, and proficiency in Aspen HYSYS.

Qualifications

• Strong LNG onshore-processing understanding.
• Proficient in Aspen HYSYS and standard engineering calculations.
• Familiar with PI ProcessBook/PI Vision and data-analysis tools.
• Knowledge of risk management and Locked Open/Locked Closed Valve management.
• Remote-site LNG operations or major turnarounds are a plus.
• Membership of a professional engineering institution is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline process-engineering support for safe, reliable LNG production and troubleshoot equipment performance.
• Lead or contribute to hazard reviews, risk assessments and MoC activities with documented actions.
• Support incident investigations and RCFA to derive sustainable corrective actions.
• Develop/optimize maintenance tasks, intervals, and SAP PM alignment using reliability data.
• Maintain and update PFDs, P&IDs, LOLC registers and engineering calculations.
• Coach and develop junior engineers, sharing lessons and improving capability.

Job Description:

As a Senior Process Engineer at bp, you will provide frontline process-engineering support for safe, reliable and efficient LNG production, focusing on troubleshooting, performance monitoring, analysis, optimization and process safety.

What you will deliver

Standard accountabilities:

• Provide timely frontline engineering support for normal operations, startup, shutdown, plant upset and equipment performance issues, with clear, documented recommendations.
• Apply risk management to identify, assess, communicate and reduce safety, integrity, reliability, production and cost risks. Participate in applicable risk assessments and hazard reviews and steward actions to closure.
• Lead or provide discipline expertise to incident investigations and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), including immediate-cause analysis where required. Convert findings into sustainable corrective actions.
• Own or support discipline equipment strategies. Use operating history, condition monitoring, failure data and reliability insights to develop, verify and optimize maintenance tasks, intervals and SAP PM build.
• Identify bad actors, vulnerabilities, obsolescence and single-point failures and develop prioritized defect-elimination and life-cycle solutions.
• Provide technical assurance for Management of Change, brownfield modifications, equipment replacement and project deliverables. Ensure decisions and deviations are risk assessed, justified and documented.
• Provide discipline input to turnaround, outage and site project modification scoping and execution, including technical scope definition, prioritization, workpack readiness, field execution support, commissioning/startup support and post-event learning.
• Monitor equipment, system or process health and convert data into actionable insights for Operations, Maintenance, Reliability and leadership.
• Maintain fit-for-purpose engineering records, calculations, drawings, strategies and technical reports in accordance with applicable standards.
• Coach engineers and technicians, share lessons and good practices, and strengthen engineering capability and continuous improvement.

Role-specific accountabilities:

• Lead process troubleshooting during steady-state, startup, shutdown and upset conditions and evaluate recurring issues such as fouling, high DP and off-specification product.
• Perform heat/mass balances, hydraulic evaluations, line sizing, equipment rating, relief-valve verification and pump/compressor assessments.
• Validate changes using Aspen HYSYS and documented engineering justification.
• Support LNG Operations Surveillance, such as Monitor CO2 slip, MR/PR balancing, water/steam balance and production loss.
• Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, risk assessment and MoC; support bowtie barrier-health reviews and alarm rationalization.
• Maintain PFDs, P&IDs and LOLC Register and support debottlenecking, modifications and replacements.

What you will need to be successful

• Minimum 15+ years of process-engineering experience in oil and gas with an operator, consultant or EPC.
• Strong LNG onshore-processing understanding with knowledge of offshore facilities and LNG export systems.
• Proficient in Aspen HYSYS and international-standard engineering calculations.
• Familiar with PI ProcessBook/PI Vision, Palantir and data-analysis tools.
• Knowledge of risk management and Locked Open/Locked Closed Valve management

Additionally, it would be beneficial to have:

• Remote-site LNG operations; startup, commissioning or major turnaround; barrier health and bowtie knowledge.
• Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution.
