Job summary

Job Description:

As a Static Mechanical Engineer at bp, you will provide deep practical mechanical expertise in design, analysis and troubleshooting of static equipment, piping and combustion equipment for strategic reviews and site tactical engineering.

What you will deliver

Standard accountabilities:

• Provide timely frontline engineering support for normal operations, startup, shutdown, plant upset and equipment performance issues, with clear, documented recommendations.
• Apply risk management to identify, assess, communicate and reduce safety, integrity, reliability, production and cost risks. Participate in applicable risk assessments and hazard reviews and steward actions to closure.
• Lead or provide discipline expertise to incident investigations and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), including immediate-cause analysis where required. Convert findings into sustainable corrective actions.
• Own or support discipline equipment strategies. Use operating history, condition monitoring, failure data and reliability insights to develop, verify and optimize maintenance tasks, intervals and SAP PM build.
• Identify bad actors, vulnerabilities, obsolescence and single-point failures and develop prioritized defect-elimination and life-cycle solutions.
• Provide technical assurance for Management of Change, brownfield modifications, equipment replacement and project deliverables. Ensure decisions and deviations are risk assessed, justified and documented.
• Provide discipline input to turnaround, outage and site project modification scoping and execution, including technical scope definition, prioritization, workpack readiness, field execution support, commissioning/startup support and post-event learning.
• Monitor equipment, system or process health and convert data into actionable insights for Operations, Maintenance, Reliability and leadership.
• Maintain fit-for-purpose engineering records, calculations, drawings, strategies and technical reports in accordance with applicable standards.
• Coach engineers and technicians, share lessons and good practices, and strengthen engineering capability and continuous improvement.

Role-specific accountabilities:

• Develop solutions for static-equipment integrity threats and support implementation through MoC and site projects.
• Resolve complex multidisciplinary issues and perform/review non-routine mechanical calculations and assessments.
• Provide expertise to incident investigation, defect elimination and integrity management for piping, pressure equipment, heat exchangers and combustion equipment.
• Apply fitness-for-service assessment and develop repairs for thinning, shell distortion and other degradation.
• Assess vibration-induced fatigue in pipework and heat exchangers, including FIV, FIE and AIV.
• Assure small-bore tubing and evaluate valve and pressure-safety-valve behaviour.
• Detect potential integrity threat from mechanical load (static load, dynamic load, AIV, pressure/temperature cycle, thermal stress, etc)
• Perform engineering analysis independently using standard engineering tool (Caesar for piping design and analysis, Compress/PV elite for pressure vessel, Fitness For Service following API 579, Anysis or other finite element modelling tool)
• Prepare repair plan for pressure equipment following ASME PCC-1 and ASME PCC-2

What you will need to be successful

In addition to a Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, it is essential that the successful candidate also demonstrates:

• Minimum 10 years in oil and gas as mechanical/piping engineer across office and site work.
• Experience in engineering, EPC/EPCC and/or operating-company environments.
• Practical application of mechanical equipment standards and practices.
• Validated fitness-for-service and repair experience for piping, shell-and-tube and air-cooled heat exchangers and combustion equipment.
• Deep vibration-induced-fatigue experience; practical small-bore-tubing experience; familiarity with valves and pressure safety valves.
• Regular Tangguh site visits and partial travel required.

Additionally, it would be beneficial to have

• Full engineering life cycle; process safety/risk management; LNG project and/or operations experience.
• Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution.
