Job summary

BP is seeking an experienced Instrument & Control Engineer to provide expert support for integrated field instrumentation, control, safeguarding and communication systems at the Tangguh LNG project. The role covers plant upset troubleshooting, risk assessments and lifecycle optimization across SAP PM and MOC processes.

With a minimum of 10 years in instrument engineering within oil and gas, the ideal candidate will be proficient with ICSS platforms (Yokogawa CENTUM VP, ProSafe-RS) and PLC

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Physics Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of instrument engineering experience in oil and gas, consultancy or EPC; LNG/O&G O&M exposure preferred.
• Proficient instrument knowledge and electrical knowledge.
• Familiar with instrument software/system analysis and hazardous-area installation.
• Familiar with ICSS platforms (Yokogawa CENTUM VP and ProSafe-RS) and industrial control systems.
• Knowledge of GE Mark VIe/VIeS systems is an added advantage.
• Experience in instrument reliability, O&M and RCFA exposure.
• Exposure to live-plant brownfield modifications and tie-ins; strong communication and delivery focus.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline engineering support for operations, startup, shutdown and plant issues with documented recommendations.
• Apply risk management to identify and reduce safety, integrity, reliability, production and cost risks.
• Lead or support RCFA investigations and translate findings into corrective actions.
• Own or support instrument strategies; optimize maintenance tasks and SAP PM.
• Identify obsolescence and single-point failures; develop life-cycle solutions.
• Provide technical assurance for MOC, brownfield modifications, replacements and project deliverables.
• Support turnaround and site modification scoping, field execution, commissioning and learning.
• Monitor health of equipment and processes; convert data into actionable insights.
• Maintain engineering records, drawings and reports per standards.
• Coach engineers and share best practices.

Job Description:

As an Instrument & Control Engineer at bp, you will provide instrument and control expertise for integrated field instrumentation, control, safeguarding and communication systems supporting Tangguh LNG.

What you will deliver

Standard accountabilities:

• Provide timely frontline engineering support for normal operations, startup, shutdown, plant upset and equipment performance issues, with clear, documented recommendations.
• Apply risk management to identify, assess, communicate and reduce safety, integrity, reliability, production and cost risks. Participate in applicable risk assessments and hazard reviews and steward actions to closure.
• Lead or provide discipline expertise to incident investigations and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), including immediate-cause analysis where required. Convert findings into sustainable corrective actions.
• Own or support discipline equipment strategies. Use operating history, condition monitoring, failure data and reliability insights to develop, verify and optimize maintenance tasks, intervals and SAP PM build.
• Identify bad actors, vulnerabilities, obsolescence and single-point failures and develop prioritized defect-elimination and life-cycle solutions.
• Provide technical assurance for Management of Change, brownfield modifications, equipment replacement and project deliverables. Ensure decisions and deviations are risk assessed, justified and documented.
• Provide discipline input to turnaround, outage and site project modification scoping and execution, including technical scope definition, prioritization, workpack readiness, field execution support, commissioning/startup support and post-event learning.
• Monitor equipment, system or process health and convert data into actionable insights for Operations, Maintenance, Reliability and leadership.
• Maintain fit-for-purpose engineering records, calculations, drawings, strategies and technical reports in accordance with applicable standards.
• Coach engineers and technicians, share lessons and good practices, and strengthen engineering capability and continuous improvement.

Role-specific accountabilities:

• Provide tactical plant-upset/shutdown troubleshooting, immediate-cause analysis and critical O&M support.
• Own instrument strategies, verify SAP PM maintenance build and optimize strategy using reliability data.
• Steward BPCS, alarm, SIS and Fire & Gas barriers with regular health verification.
• Manage instrument/controller obsolescence and eliminate vulnerabilities and single-point failures.
• Assure brownfield deliverables and define tie-in requirements for live-plant integration.
• Provide expertise for ICSS, field instrumentation, fire and gas, analyzers, measurement, automation and digital security.

What you will need to be successful

In addition to a Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical or Physics Engineering, it is essential that the successful candidate also demonstrates:

• Minimum 10 years of instrument engineering experience in oil and gas, consultancy or EPC; LNG/O&G O&M exposure strongly preferred.
• Proficient instrument knowledge and developed electrical knowledge.
• Familiar with instrument software/system analysis and hazardous-area installation.
• Familiar with and experienced in ICSS platforms (e.g., Yokogawa CENTUM VP and ProSafe-RS) as well as industrial control systems and PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
• Knowledge of GE Mark VIe/Mark VIeS systems will be considered an added advantage.
• Familiar & experience in managing instrument reliability, O&M and moderate to significant instrument/control RCFA exposure.
• Experience in plant support, upset/trip troubleshooting and immediate-cause analysis.
• Knowledge of ICSS, field instrumentation, fire and gas, analyzer and measurement systems, automation and digital security.
• Exposure to live-plant brownfield modifications and tie-ins; strong communication, ownership and delivery focus.

Additionally, it would be beneficial to have:

• Membership in relevant professional engineering institution and/or TÜV Functional Safety Engineer (FS Eng.) certification.
