Job Type: Full-time
Industry: LNG / FSRU / Oil & Gas / Maritime
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Piping Engineer to provide technical leadership and engineering oversight for LNG/FSRU conversion and offshore projects.
The role will focus on reviewing piping engineering deliverables, ensuring the safe integration of regasification topsides with an existing LNG carrier hull, supporting vendor and procurement evaluations, and maintaining compliance with applicable marine, offshore, and Oil & Gas standards throughout fabrication, installation, commissioning, and handover.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering Review
- Review and approve contractor piping engineering deliverables, including:
- Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Plot Plans
- 3D Models
- Piping Material Specifications (PMS)
- Pipe Support Details
- Piping Isometrics
- Piping Stress Analysis Reports
- Verify engineering deliverables against project specifications, applicable codes, and classification requirements.
- Identify design gaps, technical interfaces, and potential piping-related risks and recommend appropriate solutions.
LNGC Conversion & Topsides Integration
- Provide technical oversight for the integration of complex regasification topsides, including approximately 500 MMSCFD capacity, onto an existing LNG carrier (LNGC) hull.
- Review piping tie-in points between the existing LNGC systems and new topside facilities.
- Assess piping loads, flexibility, and potential stress impacts on LNGC structures.
- Coordinate marine and topsides piping interfaces to ensure safe and technically sound integration.
- Support resolution of interface issues between the EPC contractor, shipyard, vessel systems, and topsides packages.
Technical Bid Evaluation & Vendor Management
- Support the procurement team in conducting Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) for piping-related equipment and materials.
- Review vendor technical proposals, specifications, datasheets, and compliance documentation.
- Evaluate piping components, valves, specialty items, and associated vendor packages.
- Provide technical recommendations and support clarification and negotiation with vendors and contractors.
Safety, Compliance & Technical Assurance
- Ensure piping designs comply with applicable Classification Society requirements, including ABS and DNV.
- Ensure compliance with relevant international standards, including ASME and API.
- Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, 3D Model Reviews, and other technical assurance activities.
- Review piping design risks and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are incorporated.
Fabrication, Installation & Commissioning
- Monitor piping fabrication and installation activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project requirements.
- Review construction and installation methodology and resolve technical issues arising during fabrication.
- Review and support pre-commissioning procedures, including flushing, hydro-testing, pressure testing, and system preparation.
- Support commissioning and handover activities and ensure piping systems are technically ready for operation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (S1) in Mechanical, Marine, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10–15+ years of relevant piping engineering experience.
- Strong experience in the Oil & Gas industry, particularly LNG, FSRU, FPSO, offshore, or major shipyard projects.
- Strong knowledge of offshore and process piping standards, including ASME B31.3, ASME B31.8, API, and applicable DNV/ABS requirements for floating units.
- Proficiency in 3D model review software, such as Navisworks.
- Working knowledge of piping stress analysis tools, preferably CAESAR II.
- Strong understanding of piping design, material selection, stress analysis, fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
- Strong technical writing skills, including preparation and review of engineering specifications.
- Good commercial awareness with the ability to evaluate technical and commercial implications of engineering decisions.
- Proven negotiation and stakeholder-management skills, particularly in resolving contractor and vendor discrepancies.
- Strong communication and coordination skills across EPC contractors, shipyards, vendors, Class, and project teams.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Willingness to travel to offshore facilities, vessels, and shipyards as required.
- Valid offshore medical certification may be required for site and shipyard assignments.
- For Indonesia-based assignments, SKK Migas certification and/or relevant professional-body membership may be an advantage.
