Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking a Mining Technology Specialist for the Grasberg Mine in Central Papua, Indonesia. This on-site role focuses on autonomous underground mining technologies, data-driven optimization, and close customer collaboration with MineStar systems.

The candidate should have a degree in Mining/Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics/Automation, strong field support skills, and experience with mining equipment and digital systems.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Mining, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation or related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of mining technology, automation, and digital mining concepts.
• Experience with field support, troubleshooting, and customer engagement.

Responsibilities

• Serve as on-site technical expert for Caterpillar's autonomous underground mining tech.
• Support and optimize MineStar Command systems and on-board technologies.
• Monitor system performance and drive productivity improvements.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and machine comms in the field.
• Analyze data to identify trends, root causes and improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with mine operations and technicians to reduce downtime.
• Assist installation, configuration, integration, and commissioning of MineStar hardware/software.
• Work with engineering and product teams to implement improvements.
• Develop training materials and coach customers and dealers on best practices.
• Participate in safety, productivity, and operational excellence initiatives.

What You’ll Do

As a Mining Technology Specialist, you will serve as the on-site technical expert supporting Caterpillar's autonomous underground mining technologies.

• Supporting and optimizing MineStar® Command autonomous systems and on-board technologies.


• Monitoring system performance and identifying opportunities to improve productivity and equipment availability.


• Troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, and machine communication issues in the field.


• Analyzing operational and equipment data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities.


• Working closely with mine operations personnel, controllers, supervisors, and technicians to reduce downtime and maximize system utilization.


• Supporting installation, configuration, integration, and commissioning of MineStar® hardware and software solutions.


• Collaborating with Caterpillar engineering and product support teams to identify, document, and implement product improvements.


• Developing training materials and coaching customer and dealer personnel on best practices and system operation.


• Participating in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, and operational excellence.


• Managing machine and system integrations across autonomous mining equipment and site infrastructure.

What skills you will have:

You enjoy solving complex operational challenges and using technology to improve mining performance. You are comfortable working with both people and technology and can confidently move between field troubleshooting, customer engagement, and data-driven analysis. Technical Excellence: Mining industry experience in surface or underground operations. Knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems used in mining equipment. Understanding of industrial networking, communications systems, radios, and data networks. Experience in troubleshooting complex technical systems and identifying root causes. Field Support: Experience supporting mining equipment, mining technology, automation systems, or operational technology environments. Effective Communications: Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. This position requires advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal. Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Effective organization, prioritization, and time-management skills. Strong analytical capabilities and attention to detail. Relationship Management: A customer-focused mindset. The ability to work independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams. Adaptability and the ability to thrive in a dynamic mining environment.

Education:

Degree or diploma in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.

Location: Grasberg Mine, Central Papua, Indonesia Roster: 6 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off Work Schedule: Up to 12-hour shifts, 6 days on / 1 day off while on roster Accommodation & Transportation: Transportation to and from the mine site, site accommodation, and meals are provided while on roster. Simply arrive at your designated departure point and focus on what matters most, making an impact and advancing your career in mining technology. Relocation: Domestic relocation is available for this role.
