About the role

We are seeking an experienced HSSE Manager to join our team in Simalungun, North Sumatra on a full-time basis. This is a strategic leadership position responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive health, safety, security, and environmental programmes across all construction projects and operations. The HSSE Manager will play a pivotal role in fostering a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and minimising risk throughout the organisation. This role reports directly to senior management and is essential to our commitment to protecting our workforce and the environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive HSSE policies, procedures, and standards aligned with Indonesian regulations and international best practices
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements
• Lead incident investigations, analyse root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate future occurrences
• Provide HSSE training and induction programmes to all personnel, ensuring employees understand their responsibilities and safe working practices
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and crisis management protocols
• Monitor and report HSSE performance metrics, including incident rates, near-misses, and compliance status to management and stakeholders
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, clients, and third-party agencies to ensure adherence to local and national legal requirements
• Manage environmental assessments and mitigation measures to minimise the ecological impact of construction activities
• Promote a proactive safety culture through toolbox talks, safety briefings, and employee engagement initiatives
• Maintain comprehensive HSSE documentation, records, and reporting systems

What we’re looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience as an HSSE Manager or in a similar senior HSSE role, preferably within the manufacturer/oil produce industry
• In-depth knowledge of Indonesian health, safety, security, and environmental legislation, regulations, and compliance frameworks
• Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing HSSE management systems and standards
• Strong incident investigation skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions
• Proficiency in HSSE risk assessment and hazard identification methodologies
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of personnel, from site workers to senior management
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and mentor HSSE teams
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HSSE management software systems
• Strong organisational and project management capabilities with excellent attention to detail
• Preferred: ISO 45001, ISO 14001, or other recognised HSSE certifications; experience in large-scale construction projects; knowledge of international HSSE standards
