Job summary

Asia Pulp and Paper Group (APP) in South Sumatra seeks a Lead Electrical & Automation Commissioning to supervise pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing and start-up of HV/MV/LV and DCS/PLC systems.

You will verify installations against drawings and standards, coordinate energization, perform insulation and relay tests, and ensure safe operation under LOTO and permit-to-work regimes. You will mentor operations and hand over fully commissioned systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical/automation engineering or related field.
• Extensive experience with electrical and automation commissioning.
• Knowledge of power distribution and automation platforms.
• Experience with protection relay testing and safety standards.
• Ability to lead cross-functional commissioning teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing and start-up of electrical and automation systems.
• Verify installations against drawings, P&IDs, SLDs and standards.
• Plan, supervise testing, energization, loop/I/O checks, and interlock verification.
• Conduct insulation, transformer, and relay testing; automation tests.
• Coordinate energization sequences for substations, switchgear, MCCs, gensets.
• Configure and troubleshoot PLC/DCS logic; resolve field issues.
• Coordinate with mechanical, instrumentation, and process teams for readiness.
• Support FAT/SAT and performance testing; ensure safety and permits compliance.
• Prepare test records, energization reports, and handover documentation.
• Train operators and maintenance on electrical and automation systems.

Job description

Lead the pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, and start up of electrical systems (HV, MV, LV equipment) and automation systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA, HMI, and field instrumentation).

Verify electrical and automation installations against approved drawings, specifications, single-line diagrams (SLDs), P&IDs, control narratives, and applicable standards.

Plan and supervise testing, inspection, and energization of electrical equipment and distribution systems, as well as loop checks, I/O checks, interlock verification, and cause and effect testing for automation systems.

Conduct electrical tests (insulation resistance, continuity, transformer tests, protection relay testing, cable testing) and automation functional/acceptance tests.

Coordinate the energization sequence of substations, switchgear, MCCs, transformers, UPS systems, generators, and auxiliary electrical systems, ensuring alignment with control and automation readiness.

Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC/DCS logic and process control parameters, and troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues encountered during commissioning and plant start-up.

Coordinate closely with mechanical, instrumentation, and process commissioning teams to ensure integrated system readiness.

Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and performance testing of electrical and automation equipment.

Ensure compliance with electrical and automation safety regulations, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, permit-to-work systems, and commissioning safety requirements.

Review and clear electrical and automation punch lists before system handover.

Prepare commissioning procedures, test records, energization reports, loop check records, as-built documentation, and final commissioning reports.

Provide technical support during plant start-up, stabilization, and performance optimization.

Train operations and maintenance personnel on electrical and automation system operation, safety, troubleshooting, and maintenance practices.

Support final handover of electrical and automation systems to the operations team with complete documentation.

Required Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.

Extensive experience in electrical and automation commissioning for industrial facilities, preferably in pulp & paper, petrochemical, power generation, mining, or other heavy industries.

Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems (substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, protection systems) and automation systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, industrial communication networks, field instrumentation).

Experience with protection relay testing, electrical commissioning procedures, power system troubleshooting, and leading automation platforms (Siemens, ABB, Emerson, Honeywell, Yokogawa, Rockwell).

Familiarity with international safety, commissioning standards, and electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, NFPA, or equivalent).

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills.

Excellent coordination, communication, and leadership abilities.

A contract-based during project phase, with a high chance of permanent during operation & maintenance phase.

Willing to be placed in OKI, South Sumatra.
