Job summary

APRIL seeks an Electrical Engineer/Specialist to provide technical expertise across mill electrical systems, covering LV, MV and HV equipment, VSD/VFD control, switchgear, transformers, MCC, and power distribution. You will troubleshoot, optimize performance, and support commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• 5–8 years in electrical engineering, maintenance, or reliability in heavy process industries
• Strong hands-on experience with VSD/VFD and troubleshooting
• Deep knowledge of LV/MV/HV systems and high-current applications
• Experience with switchgear, MCC, transformers, motors, generators
• Familiar with protection relays, power distribution, UPS and batteries
• Ability to read SLDs, schematics and wiring diagrams
• Experience in load flow, short circuit, motor starting and coordination studies
• Knowledge of safety, LOTO, and electrical codes
• Willing to be based in Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan, Riau

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise for electrical systems and equipment across the mill
• Ensure reliability, availability, and safe operation of LV, MV, and HV systems
• Lead troubleshooting of electrical problems including VSD/VFD trips and motor failures
• Support VSD/VFD parameter setting, commissioning, fault analysis, and optimization
• Manage high-current and high-voltage systems including transformers and MCC
• Review protection systems: overcurrent, earth fault, differential, motor protection
• Support system studies: load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, power factor, protection coordination
• Develop and review designs, specs, calculations, drawings, and docs for projects
• Provide tech support for motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, UPS, batteries, distribution
• Assist commissioning and startup of new equipment; verify performance
• Conduct RCA for major electrical failures and develop improvement plans
• Establish preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Instrumentation, Mechanical, Projects
• Ensure compliance with standards, codes, safety, LOTO, and regulations
• Provide guidance to Electrical Technicians and Engineers

Job Description – Electrical Engineer / Specialist

Position: Electrical Engineer / Electrical Specialist

Department: Electrical / Engineering & Maintenance

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical expertise and engineering support for electrical systems and equipment across the mill, including process areas such as Power Boiler, Evaporator, Recausticizing, Lime Kiln, and other utility/process units.
• Ensure the reliability, availability, and safe operation of LV, MV, and HV electrical systems.
• Lead troubleshooting and technical analysis of electrical problems, including VSD/VFD trips, motor failures, protection trips, power quality issues, and electrical system disturbances.
• Provide technical expertise in Variable Speed Drive (VSD/VFD) systems, including parameter setting, commissioning, troubleshooting, fault analysis, and performance optimization.
• Manage and troubleshoot high-current and high-voltage electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, MCC, motor control systems, and power distribution equipment.
• Review and analyze electrical protection systems, including overcurrent, earth fault, differential, under/over voltage, and motor protection.
• Support electrical system studies such as load flow, short circuit, motor starting, voltage drop, power factor, and protection coordination.
• Develop and review electrical engineering designs, specifications, calculations, drawings, and technical documents for plant improvement and modification projects.
• Provide technical support for electrical motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, MCC, VSD/VFD, soft starters, UPS, battery systems, and distribution systems.
• Support commissioning and start-up of new electrical equipment and systems, including testing and performance verification.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major or recurring electrical failures and develop improvement plans.
• Establish and review preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies for critical electrical equipment.
• Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Instrumentation, Mechanical, and Project teams to resolve technical issues and improve plant reliability.
• Ensure electrical systems and maintenance activities comply with company standards, electrical codes, safety requirements, LOTO, and applicable regulations.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to Electrical Technicians and Engineers.
• Support energy-efficiency initiatives, electrical system optimization, and continuous improvement projects.

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor's Degree (S1) in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5–8 years of experience in electrical engineering, maintenance, or reliability within Pulp & Paper, Power Plant, Chemical, Petrochemical, Mining, or other heavy process industries.
• Strong hands-on and technical experience with VSD/VFD systems, including troubleshooting, parameter setting, commissioning, and fault analysis.
• Strong knowledge of LV/MV/HV electrical systems and high-current applications.

• Familiar with electrical testing and commissioning activities, including insulation resistance, winding resistance, transformer testing, relay testing, and functional testing.
• Experience supporting electrical systems in continuous process industries is highly preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Good understanding of electrical safety, LOTO, work permits, and HSE requirements.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Able to lead technical discussions and provide guidance to maintenance and operations teams.
• Willing to be based in Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan, Riau.
