This role is to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of UNIX, Linux, middleware systems within the organization.
It involves troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, performing regular system maintenance, and implementing updates to enhance system performance and security. Additionally, the job incumbent will need to collaborate with other IT teams to support business operations, maintain detailed records of system performance, and provide technical guidance to optimize the use of UNIX, LINUX and middleware resource.
1. System Administration
- Proficient in installing, configuring, and supporting AIX, Solaris, and RedHat Linux operating systems.
- Experienced in installing, configuring, and maintaining IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM MQ environments.
- Capable of setting up and managing RedHat Linux YUM servers for patch management.
- Skilled in performing OS and middleware upgrades and patching to address end-of-support and security vulnerabilities.
- Able to update and deploy internal CA certificates within systems.
2. System Monitoring & Capacity Planning
- Experienced in configuring SNMP messaging for Netgain/PRTG monitoring integration.
- Able to monitor system performance and resource utilization to support proactive planning.
- Capable of preparing annual capacity planning reports, covering system usage and growth projections.
3. Patch & Upgrade Management
- Skilled in executing software upgrades and patch management to address end-of-support and security vulnerabilities.
- Able to upgrade legacy hardware and software components to ensure vendor support and system reliability.
4. Governance & Reporting
- Strong documentation skills to support audit and compliance reviews.
- Experienced in conducting Security Acceptance Testing (SAT) and user account reviews on a semi-annual basis.
- Able to provide monthly system performance reports.
- Capable of preparing annual capacity planning reports.
5. Disaster Recovery &Resilience
- Experienced in setting up and maintaining system backup jobs to ensure data protection and recoverability.
- Able to prepare and maintain system disaster recovery (DR) failover procedures.
- Capable of activating and supporting DR systems during annual drills.
6. Incident & Problem Management
- Skilled in leading incident resolution, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing preventive and corrective actions.
7. Project & Change Management
- Experienced in coordinating infrastructure changes involving AIX, Solaris, RedHat Linux servers, and middleware deployments or upgrades.
- Able to liaise with vendors for procurement, installation, and technical support of related hardware and software.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a UNIX/Linux Administrator or in a similar focused role
- Hands-on experience in AIX, Solaris, Redhat linux administration
- Proven experience in managing UNIX backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Familiarity with End-of-Support (EOS) system upgrades and lifecycle management.
- Formal training or certifications in AIX, Solaris, RedHat Linux administration are highly valued.
- Candidate possess Technical Certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator Oracle Certified Professional, Redhat Certfied System Administrator is desirable.
- Strong understanding of audit and compliance requirements, including documentation, SAT, and user access reviews.
- Proficient in generating system performance and capacity planning reports.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to system management and maintenance.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with a willingness to continuously learn and improve.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to address complex issues.
