Job summary

Pathsight Limited is seeking a UNIX and Middleware System Administrator to manage UNIX/Linux and middleware environments within a banking context. The role involves troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and applying updates to improve performance and security.

The incumbent will install, configure, and support AIX, Solaris, and Red Hat Linux OS, IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM MQ, and drive upgrades, patching, monitoring, and capacity planning while collaborating with IT teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in UNIX/Linux administration or similar role
• Hands-on experience with AIX, Solaris and Red Hat Linux administration
• Experience managing UNIX backup and recovery, disaster recovery planning and execution
• Familiarity with EOS upgrades, lifecycle management, audits and user access reviews
• Strong communication and collaboration across IT teams
• Detail-oriented, methodical system administrator with good troubleshooting skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects to meet deadlines

Responsibilities

• Perform OS and middleware upgrades and security patches
• Configure SNMP monitoring integration (Netgain/PRTG)

• Prepare annual capacity planning reports for usage and growth
• Conduct Security Acceptance Testing (SAT) and user account reviews
• Set up and maintain system backup jobs for data protection and recoverability
• Lead incident resolution, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive actions

Job description

UNIX and Middleware System Administrator (up to 35K)

This role is to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of UNIX, Linux, middleware systems within the bank. It involves troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, performing regular system maintenance, and implementing updates to enhance system performance and security. Additionally, the job incumbent will need to collaborate with other IT teams to support business operations, maintain detailed records of system performance, and provide technical guidance to optimize the use of UNIX, LINUX and middleware resource.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and support AIX, Solaris, and RedHat Linux operating systems
• Install, configure, and maintain IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM MQ environments
• Set up and manage RedHat Linux YUM servers for patch management
• Perform OS and middleware upgrades and patching to address end-of-support and security vulnerabilities
• Configure SNMP messaging for Netgain/PRTG monitoring integration
• Monitor system performance and resource utilization to support proactive planning
• Prepare annual capacity planning reports covering system usage and growth projections
• Conduct Security Acceptance Testing (SAT) and user account reviews on a semi-annual basis
• Set up and maintain system backup jobs to ensure data protection and recoverability
• Lead incident resolution, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventive and corrective actions

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience as a UNIX/Linux Administrator or in a similar focused role
• Hands-on experience in AIX, Solaris, Redhat linux administration
• Proven experience in managing UNIX backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning and execution
• Familiarity with End-of-Support (EOS) system upgrades and lifecycle management
• Strong understanding of audit and compliance requirements, including documentation, SAT, and user access reviews
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Attention to detail and a methodical approach to system management and maintenance
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to address complex issues
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
