Job summary

The University of Hong Kong seeks a Technical Manager I in the Maintenance and Operations Unit of the Estates Office to lead maintenance of campus slopes and tree populations. The ideal candidate will have a Civil Engineering or related degree, 10+ years of landscaping experience, HKIE membership, and a Green Card safety certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or related disciplines.
• 10 years’ relevant experience in landscaping or similar role, preferably in education or large-scale org.
• Corporate membership of HKIE or equivalent professional bodies.
• Construction Industry Safety Training Certificate (Green Card) as per local regulations or equivalent.
• Extensive knowledge of slope stabilization and tree management techniques.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational abilities.
• Solid understanding of safety regulations and environmental standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance and management of slopes and trees across campus, ensuring safety and compliance with standards.
• Develop, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance programs for slope stabilization and tree health.
• Manage in-house staff and contractors to ensure high standards of work.
• Prepare budgets and cost estimates for slope and tree-related projects.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
• Liaise with university departments, contractors, and external agencies as necessary.
• Promote and implement sustainable practices in all aspects of work.
