Job summary

Canonical is hiring software engineers and architects for a remote, distributed team focused on bringing open source into automotive and industrial certified environments. You will design, implement, verify, and certify Linux-based solutions meeting strict safety and cybersecurity standards across Canonical partners.

We seek engineers with strong Linux tooling, production C/C++, and Python, plus familiarity with ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434, IEC 61508, IEC 62443.

Qualifications

• Strong Linux software experience in production environments.
• Experience with C, C++, and Python in real-world projects.
• Familiarity with automotive/industrial safety, cybersecurity, or quality standards (ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434, IEC 61508, IEC 62443, SOTIF).
• Experience in system or software architecture and verification/validation of embedded systems.
• Ability to write precise technical documentation and communicate across distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Translate standards into engineering requirements and perform gap analyses.
• Create structured artifacts: requirements, traceability, risk analyses, test strategies, certification docs.
• Collaborate with Canonical teams to align practices with compliance needs.
• Design, implement, and execute verification/validation to qualify Ubuntu and components for regulated environments.
• Develop automation to scale traceability, testing, evidence generation, and reporting.
• Engage with industrial partners to align expectations and support audits.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes and standards capability.
