Job summary

ISF Foundation, Academy & Pre-School in Hong Kong is seeking a Library Assistant to support circulation, cataloging and user services in its school library.

The position requires bilingual English and Chinese proficiency, familiarity with library information systems and office software, and a customer‑oriented approach. Fresh graduates are welcomed and training is provided, with shuttle bus support available.

Qualifications

• Holder of the Certificate of Library Assistant (or equivalent).
• Good knowledge of Chinese and English word processing and library information systems.
• Ability to work independently with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Provides exemplary customer service in Library at all times.

Responsibilities

• Performs circulation duties: check-in/check-out, register users and update records.
• Assists users with online catalogs/databases.
• Shelving, shelf reading and processing of print/non-print materials for circulation.
• Assists in cataloging and maintenance of bibliographic records.
• Handles overdue and reservations; tracks payments for lost/damaged items.
• Supports setup of displays and signage and initial information requests.
• Co‑coordinates with parent volunteers and assists in community library activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Job description

Job Responsibilities:

• Performs circulation duties such as check-in and check-out of library/ Resource Room materials, registering users and updating user information;
• Assists students and staff in the use of online catalog or databases;
• Performs a variety of clerical and computer-related tasks as assigned;
• Prepares circulation desk for services on a daily basis;
• Shelving, straightening and shelf reading of library materials;
• Assists in accessing and processing print and non-print materials for circulation;
• Assists in cataloging and maintenance of bibliographic records;
• Handles overdue and reservations;
• Keep tracks with the payment for lost or damaged materials;
• Assists in set‑up of displays and signage;
• Receives and deals with initial information requests;
• Help to co‑coordinate with parent volunteers with miscellaneous tasks;
• Develops job‑related abilities, skills and knowledge;
• Help to maintain the library as a welcoming and peaceful learning place;
• Assists in the community programs related to library activities;
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Teacher Librarians, Principal, School Heads or any designee.

Requirements:

• Holder of the Certificate of Library Assistant (or equivalent);
• Fresh graduates would also be considered
• Work experience in a school library environment would be a plus;
• Good knowledge of Chinese and English word processing, library information systems and other office software applications, e.g. Publisher;
• Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin);
• Able to work independently, effective organizational and interpersonal skills; and
• Provides exemplary customer service in Library at all times.
