Job summary

Vocational Training Council invites applications for a Technician role to operate and maintain PCs, servers, and networking equipment to support campus operations and learning activities. The successful candidate will install and manage software and operating systems, provide IT support, assist with AI platform adoption, and help with procurement and inventory control of IT stores and equipment.

• Recognised higher diploma in a relevant discipline with 1 year of relevant work experience or a recognised diploma/higher certificate with at least 2 years of experience.
• Good IT knowledge in administration, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of computer hardware and networking support.
• Experience in web-based media products, graphics design or video editing is advantageous.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team; strong communication in English and Chinese.

Job description

(a) To operate and maintain PCs, servers, and networking equipment to support campus operations;

(b) To install and manage software and operating systems for PCs and servers;

(c) To provide IT-related technical support and resolve technical issues;

(d) To support technology-enhanced learning environments and AI platform adoption; and

(e) To assist with the procurement and inventory control of relevant stores, equipment, and software.

Requirements

(a) (i) A recognised higher diploma in a relevant discipline, plus 1 year’s relevant work experience; OR

(ii) A recognised diploma or higher certificate in a relevant discipline, plus at least 2 years’ relevant work experience;

(b) Good IT knowledge in administration, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of computer hardware and networking support;

(c) Experience / knowledge / skills in some of the following areas would be an advantage;

(i) Web-based media products and system development;

(ii) Computer graphics design and video editing; and

(iii) Setup MS Teams Conferencing such as video, audio, microphone, speaker, projector, recording equipment mixing board etc;

(d) Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and be a good team player; and

(e) Good communication and interpersonal skills in English and Chinese.

Notes

(1) The post is at the rank of “Technician”.

(2) Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic / professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic / professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply.

(3) The appointees may be required to perform shift duties or work in irregular working hours and at different work locations on a need basis.

(4) Appointees may be posted to any operational units of the VTC, for example a campus / centre, to carry out similar duties, and have different post titles which are subject to change at the Council’s discretion.

(5) In support of the Sexual Conviction Record Check (SCRC) Scheme launched by the Hong Kong Police Force, all prospective appointees who will be posted to Shine Skills Centres will be requested to undergo the SCRC at the advanced stage of the employment process.
