Job summary

The Vocational Training Council invites applications for a lecturer role across its Hotel and Tourism Institute, Chinese Culinary Institute and International Culinary Institute. The position focuses on leading classes, supervising projects and integrating learning experiences for students.

The successful candidate will prepare materials, deliver culinary services, maintain records and assist in training operations and events. Flexibility for after-hour duties may be required.

Qualifications

• Recognised higher diploma in Hotel and/or Catering Management, Western Cooking-related discipline, or equivalent; Hygiene Manager Certificate preferred.
• At least 3 years’ relevant teaching or industry experience in hotel/catering.
• Good communication and presentation skills in English and Chinese.
• Good knowledge of basic computer applications.
• Ability to pass a trade test.

Responsibilities

Major Duties

• To conduct classes and practical training including supervision of students’ projects and Integrated Learning Experience / Work-Integrated Learning;
• To prepare and update training materials and assist in curriculum development;
• To deliver catering and culinary services to hotel guests and members of the general public;
• To maintain training-related records and store inventory;
• To assist with the routine maintenance of equipment / facilities;
• To assist with the recruitment and placement of students; and
• To assist in the effective running of training programmes, training kitchens, special training events / functions and culinary competitions.

Requirements

• A recognised higher diploma in Hotel and / or Catering Management, Western Cooking related discipline, or equivalent; preferably with a Hygiene Manager Certificate;
• At least 3 years’ relevant work or teaching experience in hotel / catering industry;
• Good communication and presentation skills in both English and Chinese;
• Good knowledge of basic computer applications; and
• Ability to pass a trade test.

Notes

• Candidates without the required academic qualifications stated in (a) above but possessing 8 years’ relevant experience may also apply. Where applicable, these candidates may be required to have a Qualifications Framework (QF) Level 3 qualification.
• Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic / professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic / professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply.
• The appointee may be required to perform duties outside normal office hours, work on shift over a full e-day period and in designated places as assigned.
• In support of the Sexual Conviction Record Check (SCRC) Scheme launched by the Hong Kong Police Force, all prospective appointees will be requested to undergo the SCRC at the advanced stage of the employment process.
